I have been trying to post this response but it doesn't appear even though it seems to accept it. Sorry if I'm duplicating here.

Great advice Penny thanks.

My wife was just saying how more easily it was in our previous house to segment it off. This is a lot more open plan and we'll have to be a bit more creative. We humanize our dogs so much that it's easy to forget sometimes that they are still dogs!

Also, we have been sat under Tropical Storm Fay for 4 days with constant driving rain and wind (the pup hates the wind) so getting them out at all has been somewhat problematical.
