Question Guppies?

I have a ten gallon aquarium with moderate plant life. In it currently, I have two male guppies, and two tetras (black skirt tetras). The guppies' arrival was two days ago; the boyfriend fell in love with them and added them to my tank. My question is probably rather naive, but I was simply wondering how many guppies I could house in a ten gallon, considering the other two tetras. So far things seem to be going well. But I was wondering if I could add more guppies. I know that there should be a male to female ratio of 1:3. Thanks!

Hi there,
well, considering the 2 black skirts, and the 2 guppies
you already have, I do think you have some more space
to work with.
I think you could add 3 more guppies if you want to,
4 more if they are all males (male guppies are much smaller
than females).
I think you could also add 1 more black skirt tetra,
a trio would be nice for them.
That would fall within the 1 inch per gallon rule pretty much,
and would be very nice looking.
Id probably suggest just sticking with male guppies,
as they tend to fight over females, so if you did want to add
females, Id recommend all 3 you add to be female.
That would be suitable.
5 Male guppies would look fabulous though, dont ya think ?
I do anyway lol.
I like the black skirt tetras myself too....very nice, and nowhere
as nippy as they are reputed to be.

Thank you much! The black skirts have really grown on me, I must say. The two that I currently have have been with me for three + years. Their fins are starting to look scraggly, and they've grown quite a bit since I bought them as teeny tiny babies. I definitely agree that the male guppies would be more attractive. Thanks again! I just had to ask someone who knew something, since the people at my local pet store think that they know it all... but they don't.
