can i handle an australian shepherd?

i've recently been offered to take home a female australian shepherd. i have had adult labs in the past, and am not sure that i could create the right environment for an aussie.

my main concern is that i work 8 hour days. my adult labs had no problems with that, but can a young aussie handle that??

i have been around aussies before, and i know that they are super intelligent and active. but as i've never had one myself.....

any help would be great!
