Talking Deer, Frenchy...

Some of our resident herd...posing nicely in the evening sun in late September.

First the spike buck who's been keeping an eye on the girls...

Nope...pupils not dilated at all! But we'd watch them eat the funny mushrooms every night. Go figure

I love watching them.

I love it when the deer come close here. Normally they are just passing through but occasionally they stop to eat some apples off the ground near the house.
Beautiful pics hazel!

They actually come for dinner theater--they eat the acorns off the ground just outside the fence (dinner) and watch the dogs go ballistic, leaping and barking, inside the fence (theater).

Ya, although they do have to fight the squirrels for the free food.

That's actually the first and only buck I've ever seen in the front yard, Bailey. We have a small resident doe herd that includes some fawns, but usually no adult males. They seem a bit more skittish than the does. So to see a buck was pretty special.

I wonder why that is? I mostly only ever see Bucks on our land. And actually, two weeks ago, I saw a fawn by itself!! It's getting to that time of year when the does are abandoning them for winter, and it was kind of sad, but a rare sight. Didn't have my camera though, I was riding.

I'm not sure. The whitetails around here tend to segregate by gender except during the rut. The fawns hang close to Mom, often even after she's got new fawns and I think the daughters tend to stick to the mothers' herds. The bucks disperse. Guess our yard is just in the maternal herd's territory
