Skunked Dog!

About 2 months ago my Golden Retriever got sprayed by a skunk. After many attempts at de-skunking him, the smell finally came out of his coat. Unfortuneatly, his nose still smells REALLY bad! Will the smell just go away or is there something we can do about it?
Thanks!
Cassie

His nose, you mean his snout still stinks LOL
Thats a pun if I ever heard on ha ha

Having had dogs been skunked I know it stinks weeks...months later.

Your dog will prob only stink when it gets wet.

Is it still a skunk smell? Because if not it may be something different causing the stink.

Skunk eventually goes away after time.

Tomato juice might work

i know that tomato juice (canned ones) can take off the skunk smell from human, maybe it will work on ur dog too? Since it's a food, it shouldn't cause any harm too.

One of my smarty pants has been sprayed 3 times! Dolt that she is!

The oils that skunks let off are staying. If you were lucky enough to rub/wash most of it off within the first 5 minutes good for you! If not.....better luck next time!

Next time for a skunk bath try this... 16 oz of pure vanilla extract mixed with 6 gallons of water. Keep pouring the mixture over the babe for a half hour or so. (Just keep "steeping" her/him in it. ) Let stand for 5 minutes. ( if you can :-) ) And rinse well.

sidenote: you may feel a strong desire to bake cookies, if so, do so.

K, I added the sidenote as a joke but this does work. It's "liveable" at least.

I DID have a desire to make Sugar Cookies for 4 days though......

"recipe" above for a 90-130 pound dog.
