Changes at the zoo

Well, lots has changed in the last week at our house!! Some good, some bad!!

First, sadly, Sonic, one of my betta's died last week Poor lil guy!!! R.I.P. my friendly fishy!!! I had him for about a year and a half, so he lived a good long life!!

Second, one of our leopard geckos (I think it was Jane) has laid 2 eggs!!! We have the eggs in an incubator now and are waiting to see if they are good...should be a couple of days. If they are good, then in 7-10 weeks, we should have a baby gecko!!! Check out the pic!!!

Third, Tim, being the sweetheart that he is, bought me 2 new betta's - Romeo and Snowball. He let me have time to grieve then he decided to fill the empty tank that belonged to Sonic! He couldn't decide on one, so he got 2! It's a good thing we had an extra tank!! LOL I will get pics of them up as soon as they settle into their new homes!!!

Th..Th....That's all folks!

Now I've got a dumb betta story to relate! In the library, one of the staff got a betta as a gift. Had a plant on top of the fishbowl. I guess the plant provides oxygen for the betta and the betta fertilizes the plant. Whatever. We thought the betta might be lonesome so we got a book with a picture of another betta and set it up next to the fishbowl so he could see it. He actually got excited!!! Congrats on your new additions! I don't think the plant idea was all that great; just marketing hype. The betta didn't live more than a month. I'm glad they've stopped using goldfish as prizes in the carnival at the county fair. I remember when people threw dimes into the fishbowls to win one.

Sorry about your fishy, but he had a good life, not like others being part of a fad, living and dying in a vase.
Your gecko is very pretty, hopefully we'll see some babes
I too look for little lizards and stuff when on vacation, always have my nose in bushes checking for geckos and birds, camera in tow...deemed strange behaviour by some

Awww thanks you guys!!! My family thought I was crazy to shed a tear for my fish....hmphhh!! What do they know?? LOL

The eggs should hatch in 6-10 weeks IF they are good. I'm not really sure if they are ok, they are all shrivelly now, but we'll still wait and see. I will keep them in the incubator until then, so the others don't eat them! I called my Mom and told her we were having a baby.....there was silence on the other end, then I thought I better not torture her, and tell her it would be a baby gecko!! She nearly killed me!!! Hehhehehehehe

I've never been to Mexico, but hoping one day to go so I can check out all the lizards! And I will be EXACTLY like you Anita, digging around in the bushes, under rocks, with my camera!!

My friend has a betta in a vase with a plant - we've had several arguments about it, but she is alwayssssss right (NOT) so I just dropped the subject. She will see I'm right when he dies cuz she is only feeding him once a week ("Oh he gets nutrients from the plant") - whatever! You need to feed him more than that!!! Funny how Sonic lived 2 years and Silent Bob is almost 2 as well......sheesh! Some people's kids!!

Here's a pic of me and a beautiful Iguana,I also have a smaller lizard in my hand.Unfortunately these were not wild, but they were treated very well since they were the owners only source of income.

Cool pic Anita!! Well, more news on this same topic!

The eggs were bad, so no baby gecko!!
Romeo died this morning - he wasn't very well since we brought him home so we took him back and got a new one. His name is Big Red. He seems a lot more lively so hopefully he will be ok!! Snowball isn't doing very well either...so we'll see what happens with him!! Poor fishies!!! I feel bad I never got a pic of Romeo.....beautiful bright red! Big Red is more orangey but he is huge!!! LOL

Spunky, Tux and Brick are all doing fine though!!! (and all the other lizards)

Wow! Sorry about Romeo and Snowball. Do you think it could be a problem at the store where they came from?

Thanks! Yeah, I think so!! They are going to check the water they are all in. We exchanged Snowball for another one and will see how the new guys are. Big Red seems really good, swimming around and eating, and the newest addition, Crush, seems to be ok so far too!! Lets keep our paws and fins crossed for these two!!!
