Dog Vibrates and nothing seems to stop it.

I have a 2 year old male rat terrier (world's greatest dog). He normally sleeps with us and has been for the last 1 1/2 years. Recently, and only on occassion, he will come to bed and be laying there for while will and start to vibrate intensly like he is scared of something. We try and calm him down and nothing seems to help. After a period of time he stops shaking an everytnhing is OK.We have triedtaking him out of the bed and putting him in his own bed or on the ocuch but nothing seems to stop the shaking. After 5-15 minutes the shaking stops.
He is in great physical shape and has a great attitude. Please help!
