Question un neutered dogs and prostate cancer

Murphy is 8 months old now and not neutured. he is currently on prednisone due to our previous vet over vaccinating him.pred is the only thing that helps him.we are trying to get him off and gving him a hemopathic remedy to help reverse the negative effects that the vaccinations have done. the holistic clinic that we go to now says i can't get him neutered until he's off the pred and he has to be off it for at least 2 weeks. i've heard that if dogs aren't neutered and not breeding they are more proned to getting prostate cancer. I just wondering how true this is and approx what age you would need to be concerned with that?

This is so very true. And if I recall,it usually happens in older dogs 5+.

If you do a "search" on the net, every single one will tell you this.

Here is one.

That neutering reduces the risk of cancer is a fallacy promoted by organizations that have an interest in having dogs neutered in order to reduce the number of homeless dogs. There is insignificant health benefit or risk to neutering.

FACT: Neutering nominally INCREASES the risk of cancer.
FACT: Neutering nominally DECREASES the risk of enlarged prostate.

The only reason to neuter is to eliminate the risk of impregnation. Which should be done to every dog that is not a stud dog. And, in my opinion, many of the dogs that are used as studs. (the ones that aren't dual champions)

On the other hand, spaying significantly DECREASES the risk of mammary cancer, particularly prior to the first heat cycle. Brood bitches should be spayed after their last litter as there is a significant health benefit.

Furthermore, I'd be much more concerned with all the steroids (prednisone) that vets are prescribing like candy.

Steroids with long time use can cause liver damage, which can lead to liver failure. What are his symptoms to the after effects of the vaccines ????

As soon as he is well enough I would get him neutered.People with intact dogs will debate the reasons to neuter, here are a few

Elimination of the risk of testicular cancer.
Eliminates unwanted litters.
Reduce risk of prostatitis.
Reduced risk of perianal tumors.
Reduced urge to roam and fight.
Elimination or reduction of spraying or marking if neutered prior to six months or before the onset of these behaviors.
Elimination of the risk and spread of sexually transmitted diseases

the side effects were lethagicness,5 days after his vaccinations all he wanted to do was sleep (which was the more worrying symptom concerned with). This happened way back in May and have seen numerous vets, specialists and now we've gone to homeopathics. All tests that were done came out great except some test i forget what it's called and basically his immune system is so overactive it's almost like it's attacking it. The previous vet who vaccinated him didn't take extra care with him,i guess you have to be extra careful with westies and especially westies that already have some sort of allergy because they already have an elevated immune system and vaccinating him raised it even more. He is doing great now with the pred and a homecooked diet and he is on milk thistle a herb to help protect his liver from being damaged.

You may want to try vitamin E (800). You can get them at any pharmacy and this will help to boost his immune system.

You should also split the vaccines up. Getting them all in one day can make a doggy very sick.

tell me about it...i wish i would have done more research into vaccines before we got them done. in the first place vets that go to school for how many years should know what they're flipping doing i'm just glad we found this holistic vet that we're sticking with.with the combination of the homemade food and pred he's a normal little pup again but it's the combination.we tried taking him off and he went down hill when we did that. she also put him on thuya a homeopathic which hopefully will reverse the negative effects that the vaccines have done.he's been on that for 7 days and in a couple of weeks we're going to try and get him off and see if the thuya worked. as much as i do hate having him on pred i'm just thankful he's doing well now it's was so heartbreaking seeing him the way he was. the holistic vet also thinks there may be a possiblity of him having auto immune due to it but it's hard to say because it can literally attack anything.

Or consider not giving any more vaccines.
