Red face a SISTER for Molly !?

For those members who haven't heard, my potential rescue from SW Ontario has been adopted, so my search for a 2nd dog continues. I had planned on waiting until summer, so I can devote more time to the new addition, but today, something kinda fell into my lap
My friend told me about a stray who has been sitting at the "pound" here for over a month.... she was found lost and hungry in a trailer park, and hasn't been claimed yet. So I went there and met her today. Our animal control is run by 2 part time bylaw officers, so its very small and informal. The good thing is that it is no-kill
I met Sassy, a small young (under 1 year) mixed breed... no idea what breeds are in her but to me she looks like part fox!! She is just the smallest cutest thing, with a white tip on her tail!! I had Molly with me, so they met and I was allowed to take them for a walk together. They did so well, Sassy kept trying to mount Molly, but Molly played it cool and they both seemed quite playful together. Sassy isn't really leash trained, they said she pulls a lot, but she stayed right beside Molly and did quite well. Sassy isn't spayed yet so that might explain the mounting.
I think I kinda fell in love with her! and now don't know what to do! I didn't think a female was in the cards for us, but they did seem to get along well. She is crate trained as well, which is a big advantage for me.
I might see if I can take them for a couple more walks together this week and then a possible trial sleepover this weekend.
What are you thoughts and ideas?? I want to try to be reasonable but she really won me over

Zomg she's such a beauty.

I think the mounting will stop/subsided once she's spayed. Might even help her to calm down a bit . How engergetic is she? she might be the type of dog that you will have to throw a ball around before a walk just to exert some of that energy. Walking beside Molly is a really good sign, it might mean she will learn a little quicker with her . I also think your playing it real smart, walking them together and a sleep over is a great idea.

From personal experience, For a second dog I thought it would be best to get a boy instead of having two girls. However,Hubby fell head over heels for our Shih tzu Sparkie and that was that. I'm glad it worked out that way actually, I find Maggie kind of mothers the puppy a little, and Sparks seems to learn things faster if Maggie is doing it.

Anyways, it all sounds good to me...then again that picture may have impacted my opinion but only a little

Mommakat- isn't she just a little beauty!? Now you know how I felt once I laid eyes on her
She did seem quite energetic and bouncy, but how can you blame her, in a kennel for the past month with not a lot of stimulation!?
I really thought Molly would respond better to a male, but I think Sassy is young enough that she isn't seen as a "threat" to Molly, at least not on neutral territory from what I saw.

I don't think you can be reasonable with a dog that cute!!!

If you feel like you're ready to devote enough time to her, and they continue to get along on a few more walks I don't see why not go for it.

Sad to imagine such a pretty girl sitting at the pound

Well first impressions makes a lasting impression. Sassy is so sweet. It's nice to hear that Molly really didn't mind her being there.

As long as Molly is happy--that might be a sign (to sign)

Honestly I cannot stop looking at her eyes, they are just so soft and sweet looking Your right Mollywog she's probably stir crazy from being in the kennel for so long. I'm surprised she's been there for a month, she looks like a real sweetie.

aww... thanks for the encouragement everyone! You guys are bad!! heh heh....
She really seems like such a sweet, gentle little girl. After our initial introduction (bouncy bounce!) she jumped up on a high stool right beside me , sat down, and let me pet her and pick up her paws and look in her mouth. She kinda settled down after the initial excitement of a new person.
Any advice on things I should look out for while walking with her or if I bring her home for a trial run? The bylaw officer said she has shown some food aggression, so I would have to watch for that at feeding time.

I think the only thing to watch out for is Molly's instincts and reactions. The sleep over is a great idea however; I would assume that keeping a keen eye on Sassy and Molly's interactions will ultimately conclude your decisions.

Sassy looks like a brown version of Molly

You could watch to see how she reacts when you or your hubby are giving attention to Molly. I would also watch to see if she's good at sharing toys with Molly and how she reacts to toys being taken away. As for food aggression, since you said she's crate trained I would almost feed her in the crate starting off just to be on the safe side, or even a separate room.

they definitely share the same ears
Sassy is actually quite a bit smaller than Molly. The closest thing I can compare her build to, is a fox! I would say she's only about 20lbs, and judging by her small feet, it doesn't look like she will get much bigger.

Oh! She's too darn cute, and their ears match so perfectly! That Sassy is the right fit for your family. It's great that you can do a sleepover, so you can see how they will interact at home.

Judging by her photo, I can understand why .

I find our females always get along (Penny and Ava are often found cuddled together)...unless they're vying for Lucky's attention of course .

for the weekend visit .

glad to hear that your females get along so well. It seems as though everyone I know who has 2 dogs has a male and a female. Maybe it's just a myth that I've always heard, about 2 females not getting along.

I am calling the bylaw officer this morning to arrange our next meeting

Thanks to everyone for your words of support!!

OMG she is as cute as a button . And she matches Molly . I think that is a sign

Things always happen for a reason and your previous potential adoptee may have not been a pup for you because there was a pup in your area that needed you more.

Mollywog, that little girl is adorableI hope everything works out,
She's still a pup,not being very doggie-savvy,I would see how her temperament is,but again,she's a pup,probably has a lot to learn

I can't believe I missed this thread She is a DOLL

At one time we had 3 females and 2 males, all different breeds and sizes, they all got along great

Throw reason out the window Mollywog, it just gets in the way ...Truly she looks such a cutie.

just unwinding after a BUSY 2 hr visit with Sassy!!! I was allowed to take her for a couple hours, so we went to the baseball diamond and I let them run around off leash there. They kinda did their own thing... Molly chased her ball around and Sassy just sniffed around. They ran and played a bit together. Then we came back to my place and pretty much as soon as we got in the door, a fight happened. I had to pull them off of each other. Then they chased each other around the apt for the next hour and I had to pull them off each other about 3 more times. They are almost TOO similar- neither one would back down! But then 2 seconds later they were back to jumping and chasing each other around playfully. I was hoping to see them settle down somewhat but that didn't happen! busy busy busy!
So now I am just not sure about it all. Sassy is very sweet, but maybe they are too alike, or maybe I need to give it more time. I REALLY could use some advice here seeing as I have never owned more than 1 dog at a time. Will they ever just settle down with each other or will it be high energy like this all the time!? And how long before the all out fights stop? (as in I have to intervene and pull them apart before one of them gets hurt)
I just REALLY want to make sure I am making the right decision here. Luckily, the Bylaw Officer is a really great lady who is ok with me taking it slowly, and having more playdates before I decide.
I need some input here- what are your experiences with introducing 2 high energy dogs???
oh- and pics to follow... I am just scarfing back some dinner first!!!
THANKS EVERYONE!

1. checkin things out at the park (love the tongue sticking out!)
2. I'm so glad I caught this moment with the camera. Molly was trying to play, but it looks so much sweeter in this pic!
3. Look how much Sassy looks like a fox!!!

sorry I didn't get too many good pics... I was by myself so it seems like all the pics were closeups or from behind!!!
