Talking friendly encounter with wildlife :D

ok...here's my picture thread idea

come on and share your pictures of wildlife interaction...whether it's racoons or deer or your doggies and kitties running chasing squirrels and having a field day in the park or whatever ..........or funny incidents of squirrels peeking in at your first floor window, when there's no tree near the window and you wonder how in the world it climbed up there...LOL
i left her sunflower seeds after and it came around to eat this morning cos there's lots of little prints in the snow

those pics are too cute. I wonder if my neighbor sees these posts?? He's been live trapping squirrels in his backyard because they eat his bird feed! He could have spent the money to set up a no climb feeder and solved all his problems, instead he buys a live trap (why bother? he's dumping them far away from their territories...might as well be killing them)

Oh yes, that's right up my alley..here's FiFi my girl, she comes when I call her,I've had her around for 3 years.
The jerk who is trapping the squirrells should have his butt whipped,it's a stupid unnecessary thing to do.I have three birdfeeders tons of squirrells, whomever eats out of the feeders are welcome to it.I also feed the squirrells peanuts and dry corn on the cob, maybe he should try the friendly approach instead of trapping them leaving babies to die, especially this time of year
Love your pics!!

Wouldn't life without animals be so dull? My grandfather was in the 'club of bitter old men who throw rocks at squirrels". I don't understand what is so bad? I mean you plant flowers and in the spring they grow all over your lawn instead of in neat little rows. Frankly, I like the surprise....

The funny thing is,I have a beautiful large perennial garden(my pride!!)no animal has ever destroyed anything...and yes, tulips and other springbulbs keep popping up in the most unlikely places, but who cares, they look good wherever they grow.We do not have monopoly on nature,we have to share with all the living creatures and we have no right to harm anything.
I have a really lively backyard and encourage any critter to visit

AWESOME!! this is great stuff!!

and yes i agree.......that man shouldn't trap squirrels. My parents too are anti feeding squirrels and birds. We've had a lot of issues with dead birds and bird feeders ...if anyone has a suggestion for that i'd love to hear it. maybe i can get my mom to put the bird feeder back up and avoid the bird wars.

PS. Fifi's gorgeous so are the racoons

In animal behavior I learned that squirrels prefer walnuts... Supposedly they are more rich in nutrients and scientifically, squirrels are supposed to choose them first. Maybe you could do a taste test...

Prin, funny you should say that, hubbie always insist on buying expensive nuts at Christmas and never eats them, guess who does ??FiFi loves them as do her cousins
I've never heard of bird-wars,sure occasionally I find dead birds, one year I had sparrows going blind and eventually dying,I suspect lawn- pesticide.
House-finches had an eyedisease and were dying(read about it in a bird-magazine I get from Cornell Univ) West Nile virus killed The little Chica-dees(sp?)and 5 of "my"7 crows.
I have a feeder where only small birds can eat,a finchfeeder and a larger one,so no need for the birds to fight
I even bought a bird-bath heater so the birdbath never freezes and it's a very busy place..in the winter.
Spring is always a very exciting time, when the birds come back and start building nests,I also have a few birdhouses...I just noticed the Cracklers are back
My three cats have never really caught a live bird, except Vinnie who caught a Blue-Jay last summer, but I made him drop it and it happily flew away.
Since I am out with my cats,I see to eat that they do not catch birds, they "caught"the occasional dead one
The Chipmunk is sooo cute, unfortunately we have none here,I did at one time see a tiny little red squirrell, apparently very rare here.
Ok,I could write a book about"my"birds, sorry about rambling...

Here are some of the birdies that clean out my feeder in less than a 1/2 hour... (Obviously some of them are eating more than others and are too heavy to even make it the whole way...)

That's cute, mama sparrow feeding her baby...I have mostly sparrows in my birdhouses, unfortunately the Blue-Jays raid the birdhouses and take the babies, but the sparrows start all over again..
Here's a pic of a couple of finches at the finch-feeder,unfortunately I could not get any closer..

Neat thread I have a couple of pictures to add.

The first is of a baby Robin we helped 3-4 years ago. My roommate found him while mowing the lawn, no tail feathers. We dug up worms for him and gave him water from a dropper. His mom and dad kept feeding him and he liked what they brought better than what we dug up He lived in that crate, strung in a tree for almost 2 weeks, then one day hopped out and flew off. We both swear we saw him again, sitting on the fence not far from where the crate had been. He "cocked his little head" when we talked to him, like we had done everyday for two weeks. lol! Call me crazy!.

The little squirrel was one of three, left in a nest in a tree at a neighbor's house across the street. The mama had been killed by a car. They were neat to watch with the binoculars, we never got too close to them. It was fun to watch them scurry around and come down to eat what we all left for them.

Diane

that's a beautiful story

last summer when all the birds were teaching their babies to fly 2 parents and their baby bird were flying around our backyard gathering worms. The little one was sitting on our lawn chair and i thought it was odd cos it kept getting darker and the parents wouldn't come back. I told my mom, and she took the baby bird and locked it in our tool shed so that it would stay safe overnight. Poor baby was all alone without his parents.

In the morning my parents went to free the little baby bird so its parents would come and get it, and the bird parents were watching!! LOL they knew where it was and they attacked my parents LOL they got so loud!! lol

but they got their baby back

neat jiorji,

The parents of this baby never attacked us, but they were never very far away. They kept a very close eye on their little one. It was really neat to watch him in a safe place, and neater still that he did make it. I think we helped a little

I at one time found a little baby-squirrell in my frontyard, his siblings were laying headless on the lawn  I called a friend of mine and she took the baby,he needed bottle-feeding and gradually solid food. She kept him in a cage, but most of the time he was running around in the house. When he was big enough, she let him go outside in her yard,he kept coming back home, until one day he did not, hopefully he found a mate and lived happily ever after.
It was a great experience,I did not keep him with me,bacause of my 3 cats, but I would have loved to.
I've had two coons coming to my deck every night lately,it's a male and a female,my cats love to watch them,as do I.So,pretty soon they'll bring their babies,I am sure...I usually feed them fruit, they love bananas, peanuts, bread etc..
DMC123,I have a special place in my heart for Robins,I just love them and I am always keeping an eye on the pair that build a nest in my blue spruce. It bothers me that they build it so in the open, same as the Mourning Doves, clearly visible to predators.I have a pretty picture of a pair of doves in my tree, but I have to scan it...
