My Dog Rubs It's Butt on The Carpet.
DR. My 4 year old Mixed Chewaha (sp?) Rat Terrier, is rubing her butt on the carpet after going #2. Sometimes, when she goes, it does not all fall off, she then gets scared and runs into the house through her doggie door and starts rubing her butt. What do I do??

Good chance it's impacted anal glands, quite common especially with small dogs. These are two little glands on either side of the anus that normally excrete extra smelly stuff when the dog poops; if they don't get expressed normally, they can get "full." If you let it go too long they can get infected, which is quite painful for the dog!
You can do this yourself (it's icky) but best take her to the vet to be sure. Your vet can show you how to do it. Also...it could be worms of some sort too, maybe...? In either case these are relatively simple things for a vet to diagnose & treat.

This is called scooting and it is CLASSIC behaviour when anal glands need to be expressed.
It could be the fur thing like waggie suggests, but I'd definitely get a vet checkup or try expressing those glands yourself if you know how. Warning - There are few smells on this planet that are more horrendous. Good luck |

does your dog chew on toy ropes? i have a chawawa (sp?) too. i bought her a toy rope and she would chew on it and swallow the threads. (i don't have any more of these though) sometimes the string would be in her poop and make it hang out. she would rub her bottom to get it out. also, some stuffed animal toys can have the same effect.
