Garlic...toxic??????

Has anyone heard about garlic being toxic to our dogs? I'm very concerned about this. I know it has alot of wonderful properties but I already have dogs in kidney failure and I have one of them on Innova. My little papillon who is only 6 months old is on Artemis. All of these foods have garlic. Here is an article that talks about it, there are others on the web. http://www.petsbynature.com/Garlic.htm
Please read and give your opinions and any suggestions for natural foods that don't have this ingredient would be appreciated.

Not to sure, according to this: http://www.newstarget.com/Report_pet...edients_6.html
garlic is safe to use, scroll down the list to garlic

even the Wellness Super mix varieties use it, listed as a vitamin
except the Wellness Fish & Sweet Potato doesn't have any

In order for garlic or onions to be toxic dogs would have to consume a fair amount. The amount that is included in dog/cat food and treats is of no concern.

Thanks Growler...that's a great list, it gives alot of detailed info. I wonder when it was written. A friend of mine had called and told me about the garlic being toxic, I had always heard that it was good for them until then. I did a search on the web and found that article and it sounds like this info has been out there for a couple of years atleast.
And Rainbow...thank you for your input also. I've called a couple of companies and they said that they only use a little for flavor. When I hear about something in their food that can affect their kidneys, wether it's natural or chemical..I get nervous. Having pets with kidney problems has made me that way. I guess I shouldn't worry though, just about everything can be dangerous if it's used in large quantities. I will watch for any future research, just to be on the safe side.

Garlic is only toxic if used in high amounts. In small amounts it is actually recommended and if you will read the ingredients, most of the holistic foods contain it.

I've decided to stay with the holistic foods that I'm giving my dogs. I'm not going to worry about the garlic for now. I feel confident that they are on a healthy diet. Thanks everyone for all your help
