Bengal Savannah Mix?

I found a breeder that has Bengal/ Savannah cat mixes. They look like spotted bengals. Has anyone ever heard of mixing these two types of cats before?
Thanks,
Sebrina

I would stay away .... don't know about cats but with dogs , if a breeder is mixing 2 breeds , he/she is not an ethical breeder.

Someone just posted a thread showing a Savannah a few days ago. Those things are huge! They can get to be around 40 lbs.!

Google both breeds. Do some serious research before you even consider getting one. Biggest thing to realize is that Savannah's weren't even recognized as a breed until early 2000's. They only started breeding them in the States in the mid 80's. Not long enough in my opinion. Add another breed to the mix and you have a very unknown entity.

Oh, and be prepared to part with somewhere around $3000 for one.

WHAT ? $3000 to adopt ? Holy crap ! For that price , imagine rescuing a cat from a humane society for about $90.00 and donate the difference to them

I would never spend $3000 for a "status symbol".

As I said in the other thread... a status symbol. A novelty. As soon as the novelty has worn off people are left with a huge cat roaming their house (could you imagine the litter box!) and they don't know what to do with it. After all, how many people want a 40 lb animal sitting on their knee?

So, next step, let's dump it. I suppose the majority of people who have them can well afford the large price tag. Therefore, they wouldn't care if they spent that much money on 'a toy". Once the toy lost it's newness let's get rid of it.

Thanks DoubleRR for exposing this. I personally find that this is a tragedy that this 'breed' is now within our system. People have a tendacy to not look towards the future of such animals...and I am afraid that the future will be somewhat bleak.

It breaks my heart to think people would rather spend $3000 on a WILD animal thats probably going to grow up to be 40+ pounds...when you can adopt a kitten from the shelter for $30...
On a happier note, I live like 20 mins from the Big Cat Rescue in Tampa! Awesome place!

Ouch DO NOT PAY 3000$ for that baby!!
They should be worth 850-2000$!! I have a lot of good resources depending on where your from.
You definatly want to stick with one or the other breed the mixing of the two would result in a not very nice kitty the higher the F1-F4 (F1 the highest) the more wild they are.

I say why not if that's what's going to truly make you happy. Yes there are kitties out there in shelters that need homes to but so do these guys! All animals need homes! You are paying more but in the end you get:
Microchipped
Insurance
rebate
Kits
Harnesses
the works, so thats just what your paying for, their ment to be walked, thats the reason for the harness.

Wild?
In most places they don't breed F1-F2's
The rest are your regular house cat
not wild animals
and they need loving to, just like kitties in shelters do!
:]
All animals deserve homes

I think people are having a lot of misconceptions about Savannahs.

F1 Savannahs (first generation- serval X house cat) ARE big, yes, thats true. Generally, about 15-35 pounds. They are probably much more active, and they cost upward of 7000.

However, generation 5 Savannahs are just leggy housecats with a wild look to them- they don't weigh 40 pounds, and they aren't destructive. When someone purchases a Savannah, this is technically what they are.

What I'm trying to say is that all Savannahs aren't 40 pound wildcats. They'e cats with some wild blood in them, same as Bengals.

And that cat in the link looks more like an actual Serval or F1 Savannah. :/ Most Savannahs are nothing like that.

I am still trying to figure out why a posting from Sept of last year was brought back up again.

I just wanted to add my two cents here as I adoped a Savannah back in December. I'm still puzzled about the situation. From what I can gather, he was used as a stud cat because the male Savannah is sterile until the F5 generation. He was listed on Craigslist for $25.00 which included his harness and a litter box. The previous owner had him for 6 months and had him neutered. She did daycare in her home and he was aggressive with one of the little boys so she kept him locked in a bathroom all day long. I made arrangements to pick him up on a Saturday and I received an email on Friday night that he had been picked and adopted by someone else! It turns out that he was aggressive with the new owners so they returned him to the lady. (I didn't find this out until afterwards.) She then contacted me and I picked him up. I was interested in adopting him as they have been described as friendly, assertive, active, playful and interested in dogs and children. Check, check and check! He's never shown any aggression around here and is best mates with my Boxer, Joe. Why do you think he would have been re-homed for twenty five bucks?? He was micro-chipped and I have transferred his chip to my name. I don't get it. During the week that I thought he had been re-homed, I adopted a naughty little kitten from the pound. They are the best of friends. I don't love him anymore than I love my two naughty ferrals, but I can't for the life of me put the pieces of the puzzle together. Unfortunately, he's not talking! You are absolutely correct though, he's just a long legged house cat that makes funny noises. $3,000.00 sure would save a lot of homeless animals.
