Second Opinion
I am worried about my dog, an eight year old chow. She has been vomiting with yellow and clear discharge off and on for about a month. I am in contact with her vet every other day, been to the doggie hospital, and she is off her food. In fact she won't eat at all. She was on the BRAT diet for a couple of weeks and then stoped eating. Had numerous tests performed, everything is normal. (Blood work, UA, X-Ray). She is also taking tagamet three times a day.
What could this be? Have spoken to another Vet, and he has no idea either. Has anyone had any experience with this? I am also thinking about maybe this is West Nile, but can't get DC to test. Thanks |

My German Shepard vomits alot too! Especially in the summer time when its hot. It is the same type discharge as you mentioned. I feed him less and only dry in the morning. He may or may not eat it and may just munch on it through-out the day. I live in Florida and its even hot at night but i feed him his normal amount w/ some soft or a little scraps (which he loves) and he will keep it down better. I try to give him more fat in the spring to fatten him up so he won't get so skinny in the summer. But too much will make him 'sick as a dog'. He was raised in the country with 2 goats and a 175lb. pt. bly. Pig so he is a ground muncher too which made him sick alot. Maybe you could watch to see if she nibbles off the ground. Zip is not so bad now since we gave up the livestock and moved closer to the suburbs. There are some plants that are toxic to pets too as i'm sure you know and have thought about. Zip has stopped eating all together at times too (for days) and i think it was due to something he digested. As for the Brat Diet, all i know is that its not good for a extended amount of time. Zinc is a important nutritional minerial found in meat, poultry and fish, none of which are found in the Brat diet. Zinc is important for the skin and immune system. Hope i helped some. Jeanie
