Rescued Kitty, Jacques!
Hi all,
i'm new here! And I recently rescued a stray cat, he climbed a tree and could not get down so I got the ladder and coaxed him down, I immediately fell in love him, he is so sweet and just loves to cuddle and sit on our lap. Naturally I first made a vet appointment, and isolated him away from my other two cats. I ordered a panel of blood work to check for feline AIDS, and leukemia, because the vet noticed he had gingivitis and wasn't sure if there was underlying causes. My question is this: could gingivitis be something totally unrelated to a serious disease? The vet really scared me by saying it, but I think she had to in order to be on the safe side and I'm glad I agreed to it because I wouldn't want him to live with those diseases. I lost one cat to feline AIDS after he was attacked by an infected cat. Just looking for some advice. PS. They put him on Clavamox to clear his infections (he has a claw that was ripped out and got infected as well as a sore on his mouth) Also it it weird he is so friendly so i alerted the vet clinics around where i found him incase he had a previous owner, but no calls yet, so looks like i will be keeping him! Thank you kindly for reading. |

Thank you for rescuing this kitty
Did the vet give any indication of how old this kitty is? Gingivitis could be caused from poor diet or genetics. Have you also contacted the local shelter and had him checked for a microchip? Somebody may be missing him terribly.

yes she said maybe 16 months, and i can understand how poor diet would be the culprit if he's be out and around as a stray. i called vet clinics, and shelters and gave them his description and my contact if anyone is missing him, also my vet checked for microchip and there wasnt one so for now i just wait for his blood results, he seems perkier with the antibiotics now, i'm just praying he doesnt have AIDS or leukemia the vet really terrified me when she said the gingivitis could have much more serious underlying causes like a serious virus...
