Them bones, them bones.....

sorry, I have done a search for nick nack paddy whack, give a dog a bone but cannot find anything (I am sure it must be on here somewhere)
I have looked at so many web sites my eyes are crossing:
some sites say yes, ok, to feed your dog bones - cooked, some say, raw
some sites say never, cooked or raw
I remember as a child watching our dog thoroughly enjoying finishishing off the bone from Sunday's roast (100 per cent stripped of meat in those days).....
but now I keep reading conflicting information
is it OK or not? does anyone know where I can find a definitive answer or does it depend on which animal the bone is from, or size of my dog, or ???

NEVER cooked! Only raw, meaty bones. I believe too much fat can cause pancreatitis (a doggy person can possibly verify that).

I saw something on Science channel not long ago about stuff pets swallow, and one vet on there said it's never okay to give your dog a bone.

I have a friend who recently took her dog to the ER because she gave him a bone and he wound up chewing it up and had chards in his tummy.

Alot of people do give raw..NEVER cooked as it spinters due to the cooking process.
I have given my dogs raw bones but stopped when one was cracked in half and lodged in my dog's throat. I am alittle nervous now about giving the bones to any of the dogs.

I also was led to believe that raw bones were fine, and I bought bison joints to give my lab. She shattered those bones like they were made of paper. She passed very sharp pieces in her stool and after that neither have had the pleasure of raw bones. The lab also cracked a tooth chewing the bones. A very avid chewer can still do damage to themselves with raw bones. Certainly never cooked bones for sure though.

I give Brina a raw frozen marrow bone (roughly 6-8 inches) twice a week, her teeth are sooo sparkling clean , that now the vet tells others about it. I am always there while she cleans it off, digs out all the marrow from the center and licks it clean, I don't give her a chance to really chew on it or to get shards off of it. and never do I give her one if I can't be there near her.

My Mum used to say; when in doubt, don't ... so I guess I wont, for now.
Thing is, I buy her those dry strip things and she immeidately buries them. Friends visiting bring similar things to chew on and she, again, buries them right away (even the donut shapes) lol
I thought perhaps she would chew a real bone ......
I'd be frantic if she got a splintered bone in her stomach etc., but she chews on wood so I would think it's similar?
