Sick Golden
We have a 9 year old golden retriever that has lost 10 pounds over the past year, and another 5 pounds within the last couple of weeks. He has lost a lot of muscle, around his head and chest/back. On top of this his hind-end sways and he has trouble walking down stairs, or in general. He doesn't appear to be in any pain but we are wondering if any other goldens have had symptoms like this, and what the outcome was. The vet has quoted over $1,300 for tests and we are unable to pay out so much when we feel the outcome won't be good news.

needs the testing
Hi sequoia,
Wow that does sound bad. But tests need to be done to determine what the problem is. It could be a number of problems that only testing will diagnose.....I would say that if you don't test the problems will surely continue. Although i am not a vet, i know a veterinary tech really well...he says this is not normal for any breed of dog. But 1300 bucks seems like quite a bit. I'd call other vets to see what they would charge. or if $$$$$ is a big issue then check to see if there are any Universities with veterinary programs in your area that may charge much less. good luck ophelia |
