Pawing Problems.

I guess this is not a major problem but it could be. Charming all the time wants to paw us and Meat Loaf. I mean when he wants our attention or just for no reason. If we are playing with Meat Loaf he will paw him and make him bleed sometimes. Right now it is not that big of deal but since we are trying to have a baby I want to get him broke of it. We will not ever get rid of him so it is nothing like that. Just thought it would be better to teach him while he is younger to not do that. So I guess my question is how do I get him to stop?

Any suggestions anyone? I am working on this one with Duke too. Pawing seems to be how he likes to initiate play. The little dogs don't like it, neither does mum.

Copper does this all of the time especially when someone is eating(my mother's fault). He'll do it when he wants attention as well. I just tell him "No" when he does this. He does this when playing with the cats or other dogs as well. I also tell him to be gentle(he knows!!). If he persists I make him lie down and stay. This works for me.......hope it'll work for you!

The down and stay command works awesome for many situations. Once your dog has mastered this command... life is a little easier. But don't forget to retrain periodically!

Good Luck!!

Daisy does this once in a while when I'm driving in the truck, usually if I just finished scratching her head. She'll just take her paw and put it on my arm and stare at me, but she doesn't move it or anything. Is that what we are talking about, and what is that? My wife refers to it as her "petting" us. Sometimes if I try to lift my arm to scratch her head or neck again, she'll put her paw back on my arm and push it down. I haven't figured it out.

As to how to stop it, I can't answer that one since it hasn't been really a problem for us.

My cat Chico does the same, sometimes with his claws out(ouch!!)and sometimes not.Mostly it's because he wants to be petted, but if I am sleeping and he gets my BIG nose,it can be painful....I usually hold on to his paw and then he falls asleep,it's really cute..he's such a cuddle-bug

No Schwinn that is not what I am talking about. Like when I yell for Meat Loaf to come here Charming will paw him and sometimes make him bleed. And than when I will walk up the staris he will meet me at the top and paw me and almost push me down. But I mainly feel bad for Meater becuase I know it hurts and he gets pawed ALL the time.

Awww Chico, my Talon boy does this too

Solara paws as well! Not as bad as she used to, and mostly with my husband. But he grabs her paw and says "enough". It seems to be working!

Sorry. It sounds like you are referring to something a little more aggressive? Is it almost like he's pushing or scratching at something?

I agree, that sounds a little excessive? Are his nails too long maybe? He shouldn't make anyone bleed...
