Cat had bad reaction to new bag of Lactated Ringer's

Has anyone ever had a cat have a bad reaction to Lactated Ringer's? We've had our CRF cat on sub-Q fluids for 2 1/2 years with no issues. The latest bags we got from the vet were a different brand and our cat had an adverse reaction to it. She seemed very uncomfortable (walking slowly, sitting and crouching) for about 12 hours after her fluids.

We are switching back to the prior brand of fluids, but I was curious as to whether anyone else had ever seen such a reaction?

Luckily my CRF cat never had an adverse reaction to any fluids & I had used 2 different brands.

It is possible there was some small variance in the formula of the fluids or the bag material used.

I would be sure to only get the original one you were using from now on

Thanks Growler...the only think the vet and I could figure out is that the ph on the new brand was slightly lower than the other one.

It was the weirdest reaction that I've ever seen. Nala was walking around in slow motion as if her entire body hurt. She wouldn't eat, and wouldn't jump on or off anything.

Tonight is fluids night, so we'll keep our fingers crossed that the usual brand is okay.

pH level will definately make a difference.

Are you making sure the fluids temp is slightly warmer than room temperature?

How did the fluids go tonight?

Yes, we always warm the bag...we learnt that trick long ago.

Fluids went fine last night. Nala was full of energy, had her midnight snack and was up the this morning looking to play. So, we'll be sure to stick with the original fluid brand from now on.
