My Pregnant Cat has fleas!!!
I have been giving my cat (Tiger) Sergeants Silver squeeze on flea protection and it says on the box to ask the vet if it safe to give it to her while shes pregnant. Does anyone know if it would be safe to give it to her?

did you loose your vet's number ?
You better find it because if your cat is pregnant and has complications while delivering , it would be a good thing to have vet's phone number near. |

I would hope it would be your first and last pregnant cat. Please!
Read the links that were given to you. You would know the dangers of any Sergeants products.

Please use only the flea treatment purchased at the vets. I know it is more expensive, but is much safer.

Use Frontline it's amazing. I don't think you can put flea stuff on them when they are preggers. I had to wait until Socks gave birth then put it on her. What I was told to do was just keep brushing her with a flea comb. You could always give her a bath using just regular dish soap. Dawn is a good one... the lemon scented one is the best from what I've heard. Be-careful of course that you don't squeeze her tummy too hard or upset her. If she is calm and you can wash her up a bit and comb her then go for it.
Remember to get her spayed once they are done nursing and everything Should be between 8 and 12 weeks after she gives birth and the milk dries up about 2 weeks after they finish nursing. I rescued my cat Socks as a stray and she was nice enough to give me kittens Same with my other cat Three Legged Missy. Gotta get them all spayed/neutered! Too many kitties in this world right now and not enough homes

Possible help
I took in a pregnant stray just a few weeks ago (now I have kittens) and she needed flea treatment. I went to the vet and they gave me somingthing called Revolution, it was supposed to deal with several pests, BUT you can only get it from the vet and they had to weigh Misty themselves because they needed to know her weight precisely. She had already given birth by then, so I'm not sure if its safe during pregnancy or not.
what you can do (although it isn't easy) is give her a bath with a very gentle made for cats shampoo. the soap will help kill adult fleas, and if you vacuum everywhere she's been and wash bedding at the same time it will help decrease the flea population for a while, until it's safe to take stronger measures. If you do give her a bath, put the shampoo in a ring around her neck(gently) first. It keeps them from escaping onto her head. (I got this information, along with instructions for bathing a cat, from a book calld 250 Things You Can Do To Make your Cat Adore You by Ingrid Newkirk. I found it in the library.) Revolution cost us $91 for 6 tubes from our vet. For us it was a fantastic product!
We bought 3 boxes for our 5 kitties. After the first dose, it looked like all the fleas were gone. But we applied 2 more doses over the next 2 months to be certain. The last dose was applied 2 months ago and they are all clear. The tube doesn't appear to have alot, so goes on easily, but it is a very recommended product. Good luck. Shelly |
