Photo critiquing subforum?

Maybe? I thought it might be fun because we're not pros, and the critiques, while helpful, might be less harsh than on a "real" photography site.

Ooo I'll do a poll!!

LOL it's not critisizing. It's critiquing. Constructive critisism about photographic technique. (But I'll criticize if that's what you really want )

totally great idea! i would love to get hints and pointers on how to make photographs better (once i actually have a REAL camera). at least here, people could post photos they were aiming to be "artistic" and not just photos taken for fun, and get comments on how to improve skills... yeah, i'd really like this

hey, has anyone heard of Alex lately? what happened to your young photographer with the boootiful doggies?

Constructive critisizing Prin!! lol
Either way. If you feel there is something to be said bout any of my pics, by all means just say it... No biggie! It would be better than 30 people just saying " cute pics" cause really that is all there is to say. Its hard to think up a great comment sometimes.
Critique me ( critisize if ya want )

But it's different if you post specifically looking for tips than if you get avalanched in a thread where you weren't expecting it. (you'd be more prepared to take it if you knew it was coming...)

wow prin, it's like you were in my shoes! i wasn't expecting photo critiques in my "color or b&w" thread, to be honest, i know the photo isn't artistic or anything, i just wanted opinions on which color scheme worked best with what i had... so yeah, i was a bit surprised. thanks for posting this, i hope the mods take it into consideration

Yeah, I saw that... It has happened to me before too though. Where I just post/show a pic I consider is my best and then people are all, "That's your best? Ew. It's bad because of this and this and that."

lol TD, you should really take it this way: I really felt that pic of yours was great, and in the b&w version, it reminded me of a photographer I love who does great urban shots, so in a sense, I was really looking at your pic in a professional way and was "critiquing" like I would have a pro photographer's work...

but Maïka WAS really in the way.

inverness, michelle, nooo problem i know what you meant LOL! it just surprised me a bit cuz i know it's a photo full of technical flaws, however if you saw the other 98 i took that afternoon (yes, i did take 99 photos in all, LOL) you would understand why i liked that one... not blurry and two of the three dogs in a really cool pose and not just showing a corner of butt or a blurry half of a face it's so frustrating not to have proper equipment to work with. then i could actually concentrate on taking nice photos.... a little mouse told me that i may get spoiled by santa this year so !! maaaayyybe... maybe

see i don't have the black doggies, only the crappy camera... you know the kind that snaps a photo about 1 second after you clicked? so there's always a delay? and it freezes up in 10C weather?

Yeah, when we were looking for our crap digicam, the speed was the most important factor, over megapixels and all that.

I would love to be criticized lol.
Good or bad then I know where I could improve and what I have "perfected".
I would much rather get advice from other amateur photographers then get ripped to shreds by professionals.
Plus we all are a lot more forgiving when it comes down to taking pet pictures, because we all know the patience, time, frustration, and money spent on boxes of cookies it takes to get that semi-perfect shot.
Awesome idea!!!

I have admittedly been critiqued and tried better - and some pix did come out better and I am grateful to the members who helped but I guess because I work with children and worry about how words affect little ones and people, I loathe the word "critique". I never use it even in my assessment of Residents and medical students I teach. I think words like assement, Assistance in Producing Better Photos, Evaluation - positive words that emit kind, helpful thoughts woulld be preferable imho. (and while I am admittedly (again, lol) sometimes less than judicious with my opinions, I am always kind and try to be as thoughtful as I can.
