Hi there :)

I suppose I should start off with the pet to which I am here.

Sparky is my 3 year old fur-baby. Vets say he's Pomeranian, he says he's human. But actually, he's 100% Pomeranian, and I like to say I rescued him from the pet store.

I saw him in the window, he looked so .. blah & ill, I actually started crying. I never stay near the dog's in that store because they put the bird cages behind you, and me with a horrible fear of birds.. yeah. I just stared at him for a good 30 minutes, with the other dogs barking and he just layed there by himself. I put my finger on the window and he came to smell it (yet he couldn't) so I 'rescued' him, even if I did have to pay CRAZY amounts.

They failed to tell us he was on that day 2 months old, where he was at the store for something like 10 days - meaning he was taken from his Momma early.

We brought him to the vet a couple days later and that's where everything went DOWNHILL.

He was underweight, and a couple other things I can't remember right now.

Not long after (maybe a month) he got 'puppy acne' to which we brought him to a vet hospital as it was Fathers Day weekend and his vet wasn't open. They sedated him to look at him and dragged him on the floor by his collar when they didn't think we were looking.

So when they released him (puppy acne was around his mouth & eyes) they gave him some PILLS to take. Uh, he can't take pills!
We got him to his own vet where he had a 'sleepover' for a night, they scraped it off and he was A-Ok after that

Last year we brought him in for his checkup and the vet saw his irregular heartbeat was really off so they did Xrays, Sparky has an enlarged heart, somewhat collapsed trachea (sp) and a hutch back, and a big medical meaning his knee's are crap.

So now he's not allowed to run or play like that, he sleeps SO much, about 18 hours a day, but he's not suffering.

So, this is my baby. Sorry for the long post.

Here is he in a laundry basket. He LOVES sitting in there and will jump in himself if the basket is out.

Welcome to the forum Canadianbella!

I saw you had trouble posting this pic because newbies usually have to wait a day or so to post pics.....but it should be fixed for you now.

Sorry to hear of your troubles but your pup is SOOOOO cute. I guess you'll just have to spend less active time w/him and more cuddle time. Should be easy w/such a cutie.

Welcome again!

welcome canadianbella, that poor pup, imagine all the rest that come from that poor mama...not everyone would go through what you did, they'd give up, you have a lucky little pooch, we use to have a registered pom kennel, my grams raised show dogs. damn puppy millls!!! all pet stores should be forbidden to sell animals. I see you're in ottawa, I'm in cornwall and will be spending my weekend in ottawa, our son is in the dragon boat races.

Thanks guys.

Yeah I realized after I had trouble posting them, whoops !! I promise i'm sane though. Well, as sane as sane can get with a pup

Before anyone gets upset, Sparky gets shaved on doctors orders because it's easier (and less smelly) for him to spend time in his pool/bathtub when he gets hot because his heart.

Melinda ; I'm so out of the loop with this city ! I heard carivibe (sp) is in town, and now the dragon boats. Hehe, I'm more in the gloucester/orleans area, I don't spend much time downtown, too many people for my liking ! Plus, I like the comforts of the A/C haha !

Hope you guys have fun, Melinda

Welcome to the board, Canadianbella! Sparky is a doll.

I'm so glad you're not giving up on your little boy! He's very lucky to have ended up with you. Do the vets think they can improve his health or is it just something you both will have to live with?

Unfortunately, pet store puppies often have health problems. As long as puppy millers can sell puppies through pet stores, they continue to pump their 'product' (puppies) out with no thought to future health. It's all about the money. Damn puppy millers, indeed!

It's just something we have to live with. I mean, they can do surgery on his legs for 1,500$ per leg, but it's only about a 60% change it'll get better, if not get worse.

But for the most part he's a happy pup, even though he does have some anger issues occasionally which everyone around us knows and understands, we'll i'd be upset if I was sick too lol.
