When do you start feeding only 2 x /day

Amber, my Golden puppy, is now 4 months old and I'm wondering when I should change her feeding from 3 times/day to 2 times/day. Is it too soon to do it now? She gets 4 cups of food per day now - 1.5 in the morning; 1.5 at noon and 1 at supper. If it is too soon to change over now, what is a good age to do it?

When your puppy starts to not finish a meal you can remove one and spread the eliminated meal between the other two. This usually happens around 3 months. Some puppies will keep the 3 feedings and that is fine if your schedule allows it. It is best to keep the 3 as long as you can. Let your puppy tell you when they are ready to go to 2. Don't go less than 2.
It is usually the middle feeding that is not finished and eventually removed.

Hmm - not finishing a meal - somehow I doubt that will happen with this little girl. My older Golden is the same - nothing gets left - ever! Both of them will, I believe, eat until they literally cannot! They've never had the opportunity to do that - but they are both very good eaters... She will be spayed this coming Monday so I'm thinking it might be a good time to change from 3 times a day to 2 when she comes home. My schedule right now allows for 3 feedings a day because I am retired and am home with them - until she is able to go without her noon meal - then I can go out for lunch too!

my dog has been on 1 meal a day for quite some time now. We got him at 8 wks, and were feeding 3x a day, but soon after he refused his lunch, so we eliminated it, then he refused his breakfast. I tricked him for a while by putting it in a kong, but now he won't eat anything in the morning, even treats. so he eats one meal, early evening. we saw the vet early on and were assured he is perfect weight-wise, and healthy, so they told us not to worry.

It's totally up to you..There is now law saying you have to cut back....
