why do dogs lick the couch?

my dog licks the couch, and so did my other dog. why do they do this? there is no food residue on the couch.

Is it leather? Maybe the couch is salty...

my dog licks the carpet, the bed, well most things. i jsut figure she is strange i once caught her licking the wall, well that jsut freaked me out, i thoght that was the craziest thing i had seen, but on closer inspection i found a little native bee hive in the wall (australian native bees are very tiny, you can hardly notice them) so she was licking for a reason, but that is the only time i have been able to jsutify such strange behaviour. hey they are just a pack of freaks like the rest of us
