SG barking at the moon
I'm looking into feeding SG barking at the moon for my sister's dog whom I will be taking care of for the next couple months. She's currently feeding Iams (which I'd love to get him off of), and she's up to try something new. He is a 4 year old lab possibly rotweiller cross and very active. Looking for some feedback, any replies would be appreciated!

Great to hear that you will be getting your sister's dog off of Iams.
Personally, I would go with a grain free kibble such as Orijen or Acana Provincial both made by Champion Pet Foods (www.championpetfoods.com) or Horizon Legacy (www.horizonpetfood.com) or Innova EVO (www.naturapet.com) as those companies have their own manufacturing plants. There are other grain free brands like Go Natural (www.petcurean.com) and Wellness (www.omhpet.com) that are good as well but they contract out to other pet food manufacturers. Whatever you choose to switch to will be a huge improvement in the dog's diet but just remember to switch over slowly. He may have loose stools at first so try adding some plain organic yogurt that just has "milk ingredients and active bacterial cultures" as ingredients. If that doesn't work you can get digestive enzymes or probiotics from the health food store. Good luck and keep us posted on how he does. |

Don't forget about detoxification when switching from commercial to noncommercial. People forget and/or don't know about it, & often end up switching back to the commercial food!

It's a decent food. Only thing that bothers me is that for the same price you could get something a tad bit better. It's not really a huge deal though. I don't feed anything Solid Gold just because I don't have really think they are any better then the foods I currently buy and don't see the point in buying from a brand that for some reason I don't completely trust.
I wouldn't recommend it but I wouldn't say no to it either.
