Dog urinating indoors
We have a six year old miniature dachshund. She was basically fully house trained, until our Scotty died in December. She used to follow her when going outside.
After the initial grievance, we are stuck with this problem. She does it behind our back, so we never see her. Most of our floors are tiled, so she urinates in our bedroom on the carpet and on any item made from material lying on the floor. I have sprayed our carpet on different occasions with recipies read on the internet- vinegar, cayenne pepper, lemon juice. Someone advised me to use citronella oil, but have not used it Any advice please |

I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your Scotty, avz10
Have you ruled out UTI for your dachshund? If she checks out okay at the vet, then you'll need to start over with her house training. Tethering can be a useful tool--hook her on a short lead to your belt so you can keep an eye on her. If she starts to eliminate in the house, interrupt her and take her outside to finish. When she successfully urinates outside, praise her. Just like training a puppy from scratch. It's time consuming but the results are so worth it!! The most effective products I've found for cleaning up urine odor are the enzymatic ones. There are a lot of brands out there--you should be able to find one wherever you get your pet supplies. Dogs have such sensitive noses that they can smell urine at much lower concentrations than humans can. The enzymatic products break the urine down at the molecular level and the odor is eliminated.

Thanks for your advice.
I stll need to take her to the vet, but tried to start with "potty training" again. The rain does not make it easier!! Just a question about the bio washing powder. I am not sure, but have a look at the vet. They sell a bio classic washing powder in our shops that states that it contains bio enzymes. I s this a possibility? Once I have cleaned the carpet and have started again with a training programme, should we not spray the carpet with a dog repellent? If so, what would you recommend? Thanks! |
