Kitten can't meow

I'm slightly worried about my new kitten oliver. I just adopted him when I moved to brazil and realized he just can't meow. He meows like he's at the end of a mile long tunnel. Is this a Brazilian cat thing or is it just not normal???

My cat doesn't meow either, not in the traditional sense. He does short grunt sounds that I can't even begin to know how to type it out. lol I guess the best way I can explain it, is like a short "now" or "nah" sound with a kitty voice accent. Maybe if I'm lucky I can catch him doing it on video.

And he changes the tone of this short sound, sometimes in quick succession. I tell him he's my musical kitty and "sings" to me. There have been times he made me laugh so hard because it really sounds like he's singing a song because he can hit the right notes in the correct order. One day it sounded like "Three Blind Mice." Other times he makes up his own compositions.

So I wouldn't worry if your kitty can't make a long drawn out meow.

Here's a video of a cat that doesn't meow either. haha

My cats meow very little. I have one who's meow is very raspy, but he spends most of the time sort of chirping. I have a former stray who coos and only meows when she's in her carrier on the way to the vet.

Yup, I've owned 2 cats that didn't meow. One had no sound the other was more like a chirp when she did try to meow. They both lived long, full lives (17 & 18 years) so most likely it is nothing to worry about.

Too funny! AG I tried and my cats reacted too. MISty went running trying to see where it was coming from, and Seuss thought Misty was making that funny noise

I have one that doesn't meow, one that talks all the time, and another that well she is normal, only talks when she want something.

My non meowing one will make a squeaky kind of noise sometimes. Usually if she accidentally locks herself in the bathroom She is a runt/perpetual kitten.

My male who is very vocal, will meow all the time, even just when walking across the room. I was concerned at first but looks like that he is just a talkative cat.

I think you have no problem.

And LOL ancientgirl, that vidio is like my male who talks all the time.
