Lightbulb Keeping our pets safe in the summer heat.

In light of hearing of the death of two dogs due to heat exhaustion recently, I'm curious as to what hints, tips, suggestions etc, people have to help keep our pets safe in the heat of the summer.

I have a kiddy pool but they don't use it I make plain organic yogourt ice cubes (I also put blueberries in them ) and give them as treats. I don't let them stay outside in the middle of a hot day. If it's very hot , I take wet cool towels and put them on the dogs.

You gotta manage their play in the heat too. Some dogs will run and play no matter how hot it is. You have to try to keep the play time to a minimum during the heat of the day, provide lots of water and shade as well.

before I had air conditioning I used to freeze 2 liter coke bottles filled with water and place them in front of a fan.. hence cooling off the air and the dogs would lay down in front of them..

you know those "chilly" scarves for contruction men that they soak in cold water, they expand and keep the men cool? well my mom makes them as kerchieves for dogs, Brina wears one all the time, I keep them chilled in the fridge and put one on her anytime we go walking or out for play, keeps her cool, we also have her wadding pool that she loves and even sleeps in it with her head hanging over the edge
