Where to start with 10 week old
We got a 9 week old bichon x toy poodle mix. we have had her for a week (10 weeks now) and I am trying to read the puppy books and get so much conflicting advice my head is spinning!!!
My primary concentration is on stopping her biting the kids feet and snapping. I don't want to end up with a cranky dog that snaps and bites. I realize she is just a puppy but I cannot let her get away with this stuff. We have tried the yelping so she thinks she hurt us, we have tried putting one of her toys near her face to stop her biting us and to take her toy but she just gets angry and snarls. Any advice would be great, I realize this is not going to be easy but we are all miserable would putting her in a special 'you are being naughty' place be of any benefit (we have like a puppy tent/crate that zips up we could use just for naughty times) thanks |

We also just got a Bichon Maltese. It looks like yours!
We use the BAH technique that we got from Bark Busters. Try to catch them before they start biting feet, like when its starting to go around the feet. For my kids I tell them to make sure they have a chew toy when they play with him so he doesn't start biting them. But it is kind of a puppy thing that should slow down with time. |

Yes, you have to distract or interrupt her before her teeth connect. Prevention always works better than cure--even seconds beforehand. Teach her "no bite" means no teeth at all. Yelping at contact and leaving her alone immediately will work with some, but not every dog. Sometimes you have to push your hand or foot into the bite and make it uncomfortable for her. Sometimes a loud verbal or shake can noise at the right moment will redirect her thoughts. Puppies take work but you create a great companion with consistency and effort.

yeah, I also just rememebered, you can kind of squeeze his cheeks which forces the dog to bite himself, learning that bitting humans hurts him too. Not too hard of course, these dogs are soooo small!!
