cats/tuna/oil

I read a while ago your cats can benefit from Tuna in oil.I bought a couple of cans, but don't know how much to give them..
Do I give it as a small snack or dinner?
Don't want them to get sick from too much, since their tummies are not used to it..
Any suggestions?

Sorry chico, don't know. Try giving them a couple of tbsp. each and see what happens? If everything goes good increase it. Is this just snacks for them? What do you usually feed them, dry or canned? If your worried about the oil, drain the can because I'm sure the tuna would have absorbed enough of it by soaking in it?
What do you think?

Tuna should be given only occasionally and as a treat. Cats can become very addicted to it, and often won't eat anything else!

Thank's guys!!
I think they are supposed to benefit more from the oil than the Tuna
For ourselves I always buy the water kind and of course the cats know the magic sound of the can-opener or a flip-top can
I am going to give them a teaspoon full and see...just as a snack.
Lucky,no I would not give them Tuna on a regular basis, although pricewise it's about the same. But I do not think it has all the required goodies the cats need.

I've heard that fish is bad for cats and can cause bladder stones. Does anyone know anything about that?

Tuna is not a good type of fish to feed. It is lacking in something, just can't remember what right now. Salmon or mackeral are healthier. My girls get a mackeral meal at least once a week.

The best remedy for hair balls and constipation in dogs & cats I have found is canned pumpkin. They do not need much, 1/2 teaspoon 3 times a week. Cats do seem to enjoy it.

I would never eat tuna canned in oil. Manufacturer's usually use a low grade of oil for packaging.

Safflower oil is a great vitamin E source, good for the skin and has necessary fatty acids. Also good for spinal degeneration in older animals...limit the use however., just a tad 3 times a week like the pumpkin. Only if they need it too...

The fish that isn't organic is supposed to be full of chemicals that are bad for people. Make sure you buy organic fish!

Meaning? Grown on trees (just kidding!!!)
I think I'll just stick to what they are eating now, they do not suffer from hair-balls or any other balls nor constipation, but thank's for all the advice!!!

That's what our vet told us. You can get, I think it is 9 Lives Tuna. It apparently has the taste of the tuna, but the nutrients that the canned people-tuna doesn't have.

Friend of mine fed her cat a whole can of tuna once. Poor thing had the runs that night and made a mess of their whole living room, inlcluding a lovely blanket. My theory is that once you find something they like to eat, stick with it. Animals, whether they are domesticated or not tend to eat the same thing day after day and that's how their digestive system has evolved. That's just my theory though.

Changing their diet will make them finniky (sp?).

I had a cat MANY years ago that when she had any type of fish in her cat food,Sassy would get worms. She was a very healthy cat other then that.So I stopped giving her catfood that had fish in it.And she was fine.

So from that,I never give my kitties fish.

And my Phoenix is a very fussy eater. She started of with kitten food.Canned and dry. When I switched her over(slowly)she was ok for a bit.But then she just wouldn't touch her dry at all.So I got her some of the Royal Cainn indoor, and she loved that. She is now on Eagle Pack cause of her weight gain. But she looks so much better. She is still picky on her canned.

As for Casper, only time will tell.He is still on his kitten food. But I don't think I will have problems with him.
