cat not eating but sleeping

I'm back. Miss Becky seems to be recovering but she gets tired easy!
Also I got a cat for company for her from the Calgary Humane Society and the cat is 6, is a little thin and doesn't seem to want to eat but sleep.
Do cats sleep this much. The humane society said to watch her intake of food and her toilet habits.
She has slept from 10 this morning and isn't hungry?
I guess I contact the SpCA tomorrow to tell them. The poor thing has been in pet stores and humane society since Feb. 20 and was an original spca cat.
Maybe the poor thing is resting?

She could be exhausted - cats can't sleep properly at the SPCA.

She could also be sick! I suggest you keep it away from your other cat and take it to the vet ASAP.

I doubt humane societies test for leukemia or FIV, so you should get this done.

She will be getting a checkup for sure but she is eating treats and I put water down her. - maybe she is exhausted with all the changes. I will watch her!
Thx. I don't have another cat. Mr. Mow left us at 17 last Oct..
I just have Miss Becky the Bassethound who is 10.

Ah - sorry! Now I remember Miss Becky!

The sleepiness may be normal for this cat under these circumstances, but not wanting to eat is not good. Cats can get anorexic rather easily.

Try some nice smelly salmon or tuna and see if she eats it.

Are her eyes and nose clear? Any sneezing or wheezing? Are her gums pink?

Thx for replying! Miss Becky is happy to see her new friend. I noticed last night cat did eat and yes she does eat treats.
She seems healthy - no nose running etc. Thx.
Guess I will just wait and get her into vet for her first checkup.Guess being in kennel since Feb. 20 must be terrible on cats.
I'm not too farmiliar with cats but she sure likes her cuddling!
Miss Becky is feeling much better but still on Walthams low fat canned and chicken and potatoes. She goes to reg. vet to get her tests done again before we let her on dry food.
Sure glad I found this site - relieves my anxiety.

Guess it was just the change! Today she is trying to jump into a hanging plant and quite vocal!
Guess being in the Kennel since Feb 20 was terrible for her!
She also is eating.

I have brought in feral cats in the winter who would sleep for a week straight!

Cats need their 18 hour beauty rest.
