Trumpeters
Three of us took our dogs to Hemer Park today - didn't get any dog pictures (they were all running too fast)... but I did get a couple of the Trumpeter Swans..

- no, I don't think the dogs even saw the birds! They were too busy racing down the paths, into the forest and, of course, Amber did her usual - in the water!
Hemer Park is truly beautiful - this lake is on one side of the park and on the other is a marsh where there are usually lots of ducks and geese - but not today - the only waterfowl were on the lake side..

I've never seen a swan in person. I'd love to. Beautiful pics. They're such pretty birds.

Beautiful pics, even if the dogs are missing
Something so tranquil about swans, floating so effortlessly... probably wasn't that tranquil in reality cause of doggies but it sure looks peaceful

clm... you should go up to the Wye Marsh (near Midland). They have a Trumpeter breeding program there and neat places where you can go and view the swans. It's kinda a neat place for other reasons too. Baxter and Bentley would have fun there (though I guess you'd have to check that they allow dogs now, they used to but that was a few years ago:sad

nice pictures, it must be nice to have a whole bunch of swans, we only have one around here, there used to be 3 or 4 but i know the dad got caught in someone fishing nets( they kind you use to put the fish in after you catch it on the hook not the huge ones like in the ocean) and it was so sad, it was actaully in one of the local papers. i am not sure what happened to the two children, maybe they just flew off?, hoping nothing happened to them either, and now we only have the mother left, and since there is no dad, there wont be any more babies:sad:

Very cool.
A quarter century ago, when I was working in a place called Grande Prairie, there was a major push on to save the Trumpeters from extinction. The area in northern Alberta, particularly Saskatoon Island Park, was/is a significant summer area for them and there are many local businesses named after them. Rick C www.goldentales.ca |
