Migrating Pet to CA

Hello All,

I am a new member to this forum. How are u everybody ?

I have a cat which is with me for about 8 years oredy. Now I am in the midst of migrating to CA. Would need some advice from u out there how shall i migrate my beloved cat too !!!

Any help / advice is very much appreciated !!!

ictie,you don't say where you are now,whether you'll be flying or just moving by car,from state to state.
However you are moving,your cat will be happy to be with the person he/she loves:love:
There is always an adjustment-period,since cats are very sensitive to changes,but home is where the heart is,even to cats.

Hi Doris! Welcome to the forum.

Someone else on this forum will have better advice for you than I do, I'm sure. But you know your cat better than anyone else. If you're travelling by car and he's used to car rides, you may not have problems at all. If you're travelling by airplane, you might want to talk to your vet about a mild sedative before the flight. If he's usually a very laid-back cat, he may settle into the new home very well. If he's nervous and skittish, you may find yourself having to deal with behavioural issues for a little while (like improper peeing and such). Just be prepared and be patient with him. Like Chico said, as long as he's with the person he loves, everything will be fine in the end.

I do not know how far or how you are going but we brought out cat from BC to Ontario by plane.

The vet did NOT reccommend a sedative- he stated that because the animal was in an unsupervised setting (in the cargo hold) in his experience he had seen more deaths from sedatives.

Swee did fine: and this is one skittish cat to begin with(her mum was feral and that was passed on). We attached a hamster water bottle- taught her how to use it a few days before- and a blankie. I did not give her food as a was concerned about vomiting. She would have been in the carrier for say 8-9 hours with the flight.

she was more traumatized by the kennel where she was placed until the house was ready than the flight.
