Training Tips
My pet dog Pepsi is now 61/2 months old I have been trying to train him for the past few months now I have been using treats to teach him tricks which is working but the problems that are still occuring are:
1. He does not warn us that he wants to go outside when he needs to do his business. 2. He does not obey to command when I call him to come here. 3. He does not stop when I say no. Can anyone please offer some usefull tips that I could use. Thank you, Nancy |

He's cute! Many 6 month old puppies are not reliably housetrained. You must prevent him from having accidents in the house, either by confining him when you can't watch him, or tying his leash to you in the house. As soon as you see a sign he needs to go - sniffing, circling - whisk him outside and use words like "Go potty" so he learns that going to the door means he needs to go.
If your dog does not come when you call him, stop letting him off the leash until he does. It takes time to learn a reliable recall, and if your dog has learned he doesn't have to come when you call, it will take longer. Get a very long light line - maybe a clothesline - and take him out and let him wander. Call him and give him 3 seconds come then reel him in. Praise him and then let him go off to play again. Repeat until he does come when called. Quote:
My best advice is to take your dog to obedience school, where you can learn how to train him. |
