Boysie has an Over Active thyroid

I have a very elderly (18 years and six months) Jack Russell who is happy, active and still has a good appetite. However, spme time back it became apparent that his thyroid is causing a bit of a problem. The only sign of this is an increase in drinking and not putting on weight despite eating VERY well. As he is so well and I hate making him take any 'manufactured and unnatural drug can anyone suggest a homeopathic remedy? Thanks Neal

I don't believe there are any alternatives to the usual medications but I could be wrong. Could you not discuss this with your vet? Another thing to consider is that your dog may actually be having symptoms that you are not aware of, the pain threshold in dogs is fairly high. And he may only need a small dose of thyroid medication to keep him in balance.

I kind of share your hesitation about meds, but if they meant a better quality of life for my animals and if the side effects were manageable, then I would at least give it a try.

Any pictures of the venerable Boysie?

I just made this thread up.... maybe go peek at that you could find something useful. If even to print off and read or take to your consultation.

Thats a very cute innocent looking face that probably still has some mischief in it

Let us know how everything goes, hugs.

He's adorable! Please let us know how the consultation goes. You are so lucky (well, maybe not today ) in your access to alternative medicine. I hear the even the Queen has a homeopath!

Update

Today has not been a good day here, especially in London. I am on holiday or would have been in the thick of it!

Yes, Boysie is still full of himself and is still mischeivious........especially where food is concerned, he can hear a sweet wrapper at 200 yards but will happily ignore someone next to him who is calling him!

I believe both the Queen and Prince Charles have homeopaths. Boysie had a cruciate ligament problem a few years ago and that was cured by a homeopath which is why I have so much faithin it, especially as my vet wanted to perform surgery, that homeopathic treatment came from California though so I think it is more advanced in the States.
