My two cats are growling at each other.
I've had my two cats (male and female, both fixed) together for a few years now, and although they sometimes play fight, since last night they have just been howling at the sight of each other. The boy hid under the bed all last night, like he's afraid of the girl. A few times they had a brief physical confrontation, then go back to the face off and howling. They have always gotten along together, so I don't know what it's all about. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Any thoughts or advice are greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

Not sure whats up but you could get a sprinkle of baby powder on your hands and rub them both down with it. This way they smell the same. Usually when one smells different it causes problems.
Was one or the other outside or at the vet? This would make them smell different. You could also place a little dab of vanilla under each of their chins and see if that helps too! Good Luck

Could be a case of redirected aggression: http://www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/aggression3.html
Something might have happened to stress or anger one of the cats and it resulted in hostility between them. I would actually advise keeping them separate for a few days if you can and then reintroducing them as if they were new cats: http://www.sniksnak.com/cathealth/aggression4.html

I am sure it's RA,when my cats at times(when I had 3)were sitting at the window looking out and saw another cat, they would all start growling at each other and sometimes fight.

Thanks for the info. They're a bit better today, still the low growling but no physical fighting. I've been keeping them in separate parts of the house so hopefully it'll just be a few days.
Thanks again. |
