My dog spinning

Is this a common thing for dogs to do, spin in excitement when they are about to eat?

My whippets spin in excitment for all sorts of things.

OMG up the stairs.. we love up the stairs.. spin spin.

Food! OMG we love food.. spin spin.

It seems spinning happens when the desire to go somewhere meets the desire to stay put.. so spinning lets you go somehere with out actually going anywhere.

I love that explanation. Shelties are like that too, my first one used to do the sheltie spin whenever I took her off the table to do a workout at a show, until I was clued up about putting a hand on her to calm her. Dundee could outspin anything I've seen, especially when his meal is about to be given to him, and while he spins he barks non-stop, very loudly.
