My fishy fotos

Hahah! I got a digital camera for Christmas and now have some pictures of my sweet little fish. I will post them here and anybody can make comments on them. Even my picture taking ability, I have a lot to learn!
Ok I am having some problems with the size of files I am trying to upload. I will work on that. This is all so new to me!

Hi!
Perhaps a little bit of help is in order in regards to the posting
images problem.
First of all, a great and easier way to post pictures to websites
is to store them in a free photo hosting site.
http://www.photobucket.com
is my program of choice, and is free, easy to use, and allows
for the storage of many photos. It also has resize features
and provides you with the appropriate tags to post to a website.

Once you store a photo on photobucket, if it is the typical super
large size of 2100x1800 or something like that, hit resize, and do
50% of original. This will provide a size suitable for posting on a website
such as this.
Then, below the photo you will see 3 bars. Top One is the URL.
One in the middle I dont know what its for. The one on the bottom
is the one you want to use. It starts with the file name inside [IMG]
tags. Just highlight it, rightclick on the mouse, hit copy, and then go
to your message and hit paste.
Voila, you will have a posted photo!

*Is also anxiously awaiting photos*
HTH's you some!
-Koran.

Opened an account with photobucket and with Yahoo, couldn't figure out Yahoo or how to resize, now I'm working on photobucket. I also figured out how to lower the resolution on the camera so they aren't such big files to start with. I though getting a camera would be easy, point and shoot, load to computer, share with world. Not so, it's a whole new skill set! The guys on FP are all camera whizzes, it looks like English when they discuss camera issues but it's all Greek to me.
Hope your holiday was a good one. Thanks for the hugs from the other site.

Colleen

Hah ha ha, mad with power! Actually I just can't help but do it again. Here is a close up of Buddy, he's just beautiful, and full of personality!

And here is the only really good shot of the krib, Gorgeous is what I call her when she's not moody.

And last but not least a shot of three of the harlies and one cute little oto. The kids would like to name them but they both look the same.

That will be all for tonight though. My brain is exhausted from all this hard work!

Thanks Koran, I am proud of them. The krib seemed to be shy and she was very hard to get a picture of, each time I focused she stayed still until I actually shot, even with no flash she darted away.
I will be doing some changes to the 25 this spring, if I can hold out that long! I'll be changing the gravel to a natural gravel, the black and red just isn't working for me anymore. I'll also be adding a few more plants and probably some more rocks, losing the castle, it's really hard to clean around. Both tanks will be getting submersible heaters and if I'm really lucky the 25 will get better light as well. I really want some high-light plants in there. Some rotala I think. For that I must have more light.
I really have no idea what to do with the floating water sprite in the 25g, I wanted wisteria but that's all they had. I am not really crazy about it, it's blocking light to other plants and it makes the tank look small. I may try anchoring it down in the corner near the onion and see how that goes. I find it really hard to keep down though!

Your tanks are beautiful. After I get my new house I think I'm going to get a new larger tank, maybe a 100 gal. I want to do salt water again, I just need more time because of all the care. I want to get live plants for my 40 gal but I'm afraid i'll kill them lol. I good with animals but I somehow manage to kill every plant I come in contact with.

Your tanks and fish are just gorgeous! The betta is magnificent! Agree that losing the red gravel and castle will create perfection.

Do you have a male krib as well? Their coloration is stunning and watching a pair hatch and rear babies is quite charming to see.

I would love to have a male krib but I worry about the barbs, kribs get aggressive when breeding and the female really wants to breed. Now she just chases the barbs around but if there was a male she'd chase him to death! If they were successful they could kill the other fish in the tank. Especially the otos. If I were to breed the kribs I'd have to do it with only them in the tank or I'd never sleep at night. LOL

She is Gorgeous though, and she knows it, I can't go anywhere near the tank without her showing off and begging for chow!

Buddy the Betta has his own little personality, the night I brought him home he kept charging the side of the cup! I thought he was trying to get me. Now I'm sure he is, everytime I go near the tank he charges up to the glass and puffs up. He used to do the same thing whenever the cat would have a drink out of his vase.

The female is probably more aggressive since she comes into breeding condition and there's no one to breed with so her instincts are frustrated.

Kribs are territorial, but one of the more peaceful cichlids and can be bred in a community tank if it's large enough.

It's not a good idea to keep them alone in a tank when breeding. Other fish are necessary as "target fish". When the kribs breed, they have a very strong instinct to defend their eggs and fry. If they have no fish to chase off - the target fish - they may turn on each other. As long as the other inhabitants are fast, they usually will not be harmed. Larger tetras, like head-and-tail-lights, lemon tetras etc, are good for this use, as they usually stay at a higher level of the tank and are very fast.

Jackie - I can recommend some hardy tough plants
for you if you would like to try a couple out. Java Fern,
Java Moss, and Wisteria are excellent beginners plants.
None of them need high light, nor much care. All can be planted
or can be left floating, or tied to what have you.

Lucky - Kribensis are much much more aggressive when breeding.
It is highly recommended to only keep one in a community tank
unless you enjoy dead tank mates. I would only breed kribs in a krib
only tank. I have known too many people whos breeding kribs
murdered fish even 3-4 times their size. They will protect their babies
to the death if need be.

Colleen - I agree with colored gravel being too much. I also started
like that, and I found it chipped and was sharp and gets nasty dirty
over time. I prefer a smooth rounded gravel, not only is easier to keep
clean, but it doesnt hurt the fish, and looks great for practically ever.
Well, you know, Im a big fan of nature scapes in tanks. Have you seen
some of Takashi Amanos aquascaping? I could only dream.
I may also be doing a re-do of my 25g tank as well...my female angelfish
has come down with a swim bladder problem, and despite my best efforts,
I am losing her. So I will move her mate "Sid Vicious" into my big tank, and then will probably re-do the yucky white gravel to some natural gravel,
and probably will make the tank a cory and tetra tank. I have about
10 glowlights and 8 neons/cardinals and 4 rummynose and 4 pristellas, that I think would look awesome in there, just not sure which combination to do.
What do you think?
May consider moving the white clouds too - have about 6 of them left. Most are expiring over time due to old age. Have had them now about 3 years and they have cycled 3 tanks, pretty good for white clouds!

Hey Koran, I have seen some of Amano's stuff and OMG, my tanks do not compare, I couldn't compete unless I had a lot more money and space to play with!

With all those tetras in the 25g would you add anything else to the tank? I know you've sworn off gouramis, how about rainbow fish, they are pretty?

I went and picked up 4 panda cories for the 10g, that's all the store had left, I was going to get 5. So now it has 1 betta, 2 otos, 4 pandas and 5 harlies. I will do small water changes as the tank adjusts. I think having the plants helps. The filter has been turned up to high on occasion and the betta seems to handle it well.
In the 25 I added 1 zebra danio, 3 leopard danios and 2 tiger barbs. The count in that tank is 1 krib, 1 SAE, 4 otos, 5 danios, 6 tiger barbs. This time I bagged the krib before introducing the new fish then turned out the light before letting her go back in. It seemed to help with her aggression, she was nipping at the bags while they were floating! The tank is quite busy now and full of movement again.

I need some different plants. I love wisteria but have a hard time finding it. So far I have had poor luck with stem plants. The bulb and rhizome varieties are all doing well though. I'm looking forward to the spring when I redo it! There may be other plants available that don't ship well in the winter.

If you have new pics of your tanks you'd like to share I'd love to see them. I'll be adding mine when the tanks settle down. The pandas are so shy!

Woohoo Pandas!!!!
I have never been able to find them here myself!
Sounds great!
You should see my 10g tank its a jungle!
I will snap a couple pics tonight.
The wisteria is literally growing so far its taking over the tank!
Of course if you want some in the spring I could definetly
sell you a good hearty bunch!
Ill definetly snap some pics so you can see.
I have finally gotten rid of the worms in my 10g tank woohoo!
took forever and lost all my guppies, but thats ok, didnt want
guppies any more anyway. Well, except for the 100 fry or
so that the last mama had just before she passed away ugh.
I find new corys are always very shy!

Well, in my 25g tank right now minus the angels:
9 Corydoras Aeneus (6 bronze 3 albino)
1 Stone Lapping Barb
3 Ottos

Im thinkin I would go with the 7 glowlights and 9 neons/cardinals
and add my Paradise Fish from my 10g tank. What do you think?

Then for my 10g tank I will have 4 Corys hasbrosus
1 Rubbernose Pleco
I want to go with either 6 Threadfin Rainbows or
6 Beckfords Pencilfish, or May go with 4 Pencils and a M/F
Pair of Threadfins. I also would like to add 2 more Corys.
What do you think?

You have a hard time finding pandas? They always seem to have some kicking around here. SuperPet had loads of them when I was in there last.
I usually go to St.Albert to Paradise Pets or to SuperPet on the West End of Edmonton, they always have good healthy fish in the tanks. I don't buy from the local fish store to often. Not since they sold me sick kribs, one right after the other and neglected to tell me their tanks were still cycling! They kept saying my tank had the problem, they were all hush hush about the water tests yet they replaced the first krib that died.

If you have wisteria available in the spring add it to my list. I do want some, I want to try it in both tanks, the water sprite just isn't working for me. I'm giving some to my neighbor. She has a 30g tank but it isn't planted yet. I hope to get my hands in her tank soon! She just got her son one of those tiny betta tanks with the miniscule hob filter, and a hang on side light, it's so cute, she put two gold white clouds in and a hank of moss and hygro from my tank. It looks so sweet! Perfect for a kid. She'll be recieving some water sprite babies for both her small tanks. Soon her bettas will find themselves in similar tanks I think, she loves how Buddy looks with his pals.

Paradise fish are also gorgeous, I always forget them, they are also labrinth fish aren't they? Can't wait to see the pics. I'll have to see the other fish, I haven't kept tetras since I was a kid and pencil fish never! They do look neat though.
