Bunny in food dish

I have a young bunny who always likes to eat his pellets while in the food dish. The problem with this is he often leaves pellets in there while he's feeding. I try to discourage it but he ends up back in there eventually anyways. Should I keep discouraging it or is it ok since I read rabbits eat their own feces. He'll eventually be too big to do this anyways, but right now it's just easier access for him to be right in the food dish. Thanks for any help!

I hear rabbits have two digestive systems. So they eat some of their own pellets. Your local 4H club might have more information. Good Luck.

Bunnies in the wild do this, too (unless my dogs chase them off and do it for them ). It's analogous to cows chewing their cud...they extract more nutrition that way. Frankly, for this reason, I'm glad I'm not a rabbit. But I think it's a normal thing...it even has a name...coprophagia or something like that, as I recall...

Welcome to the forum, by the way. Got any pictures of your bunny to share with us?

i think all rodents eats their own poo. My guinea pig did, my hamster did too. It's good for them.othing to worry about But as the bunny will grow, he'll start not fitting in the bowl anymore and he'll stop the habit of eating in his bowl. Happened to my guinea pig too
