I read in ?Monday's paper that Sam has now passed on. He was PTS because of heart failure, apparently.
RIP Sam. No one will make you growl any more.

Sam....

There are no "ugly" dogs at the bridge, Sam..You will not be presented up as an item of curiosity to shock, repel, or amaze. You will just be a sweet dog.

I'd not seen this poor little guy before, and yes.. he certainly is quite shocking looking. But.. though I'm sure his owner loved him dearly, I find this promoting and exploiting of his ugliness to be rather distasteful.
The merchandising of "Sam" gear on his website - $18 t-shirts, calenders, $14 coffee "ugly" mugs and so on -are the proceeds going to a worthwhile charity, animal or other?
Or do people just see a way to convert the "novelty" of Sam's appearance into cash in their pockets?

I've always found the '"freak show" concept rather ugly myself..
Some may say....its "only" a dog..he doesnt know.
Maybe.. but we do..

back in Russia, when my amstaff was still a baby, I have heard a lot from different people - why do you own such an ugly dog?! OMG, she is so ugly...
I used to answer - when was the last time you looked in the mirrow???

there is no ugly babies.. ugly dogs.. ugly people.. there are "ugly" mentalities

Jemma looks so mean there. Our last dog, had quite the mean growl too. Of course, she wouldn't hurt a fly.

But I mean, she growls for hugs, for Boo walking in the room, for talking to her while she's eating, for poking her lips, for asking her if she's crabby... Come to think of it, it's hard to make her not growl...

So ya, if it was me, and Jemma was ugly (not in this lifetime) then I'd probably show you how she growls too... ***shrugs***

Prin,

It's great the way you trust Jemma, even in her worst moods.

The only time she has ever tried to snap me was when she was being very protective of the man for some reason. We always joke around to get her riled up but one day, she just couldn't take it. Other than that, she seems to growl because she has to, not because she wants to. You can pet her the same way at night as you do in the day, but at night she growls. I think bad things happened to her at night.

Joey was like that at night !! In the day time you could wake him up and he was ready for adventure. At night he just didn't want to be bothered. If it was after 7:00 he wanted to be left alone.

Thanks Chico! Sometimes when I'm sweeping the floor and I have to pick up around 30 toys, I tell them how lucky they are...

I agree with Chico on both counts, Prin. Beautiful dogs - so lucky to have you!
And wow! Does Jemma do a good fierce impersonation! LOL.

Thanks... And yes, she's scary. She's tiny compared to Boo and people always assume Boo is the one to be afraid of. But Boo is the baby and Jemma is the attack beast...
