my pet mouse
Ok sounds strange but my mouse is making odd noises. Its not all the time and she seems to do it when I'm near by. - Could she be communicating with me? My mate thought she may have a chest infection but she isn't wheezing when I hold her close to listen.

What kind of noises?
Mice will click, squeek, chirp and make all kinds of little noises at you to communicate. Do you ever give her treats? If you do she'll make noises at you when you come near the cage. If she likes being handled that will also cause her to make noises. Is she in the cage by herself? Female mice are really social and would prefer to have other mice with them (though I wouldn't suggest adding any if she's been solitary for a long time), so that could cause her to "talk" to you when you come near. My parents used to raise feeder mice for our snakes (yes I know gruesome), but the adults were pets and they got handled a lot and plenty of treats so when you went near the cage you would have several clicking and making noise at you wanting attention. (Btw, sometimes they'll make a noise that sounds like several short sneezes - it doesn't necessarily mean they're sick, it's a way of communicating and smelling) Last edited by MyBirdIsEvil; November 6th, 2006 at 03:35 PM. |

Thank you
Thank you
That sounds exactly like what she has been doing. Yesterday I had a bit of an upset and was sat near her crying, she started "talking" to me from her bed! She did have another mouse with her but unfortunately she passed away. She gets plenty of treats (and gets excted about them) I am so glad it is communicating, Thank you x |
