Exclamation Introducing a new kitten to a dog

I want a kitten but I don't know how to socialize it with the dog I own. She's a three year old standard poodle who usually goes after cats on the street, how can I teach her to live with a cat?

Claire,

Go Slowly...use common sense.

Get the scent of one animal on some clothing, then let the other animal smell it.

At the very first instance of their meeting have the cat caged.

Don't let them close right away.

WATCH them at first.

Beware of body language of the cat!!

Be prepared to step in if necessary...but only if necessary.

Eventually they will become buddies....or at least they should tolerate each other.

The is also some more info on this site in the archives from the link vet Q and A.

Good luck.

Herman
