Awesome litter box! Cheap, dogproof

I made a litter box for $7. It's fantastic. My cat loves it, and has only used his old covered box once since we put the homemade one out on Tuesday (which I discovered this morning when I cleaned both boxes out).

It drastically reduces the amount of litter that gets loose. It also makes it a whole lot harder for dogs to get snacks! Oh, and it's great at keeping the smell contained (I seriously had no idea he'd been using it so much, I would have cleaned it sooner). I think the only flaw is it's a lot harder to remember to clean it!

The photo is pretty self-explanatory, but I did a blog post on it if you want to check it out: Litter Box!. If it's not at the top just scroll down like an inch and you'll see it.

That is great! I might just try that. I like the no scatter of the litter idea.

Thanks! The reviews for Clevercat (which this is based off of, and which you can buy for around $35) said some cats don't like this style, so just keep that in mind. Also I'm going to add some silicone caulk or carpet to the lid of mine to help reduce scatter even further. Just the way it is though, comparing boxes, he made more scatter using his old box the one time than he did using the homemade box all week.

interesting!

Hi,

I just looked at your home made litter box, crafty idea!

I am not certain my cats would use the hole on top, as some are very large cats who would find the lid a bit too ''wobbly'' for their weight, but it does give me ideas I could try, perhaps like cutting an oval on the top of the bin, and another on the lid that would fit together...

I am always looking for litter boxes, as I only use mine for about 6 to 8 months, until they start to smell and need to be thrown out/recycled.

Next time I see such a bin at the used store, I will be sure to get it and try this idea. Thanks.

That's awesom! I'm going to try the same thing. As for the lid being too wobbly for a big cat, no way. Crush is 13+ lbs and I've been feeding him on top of a bin like this (it's his litter box, with the hole cut in the side) with no problems at all.

your litter box

Hi,

I will try this, while still leaving my other 3 boxes around.

I am sure the lid is solid enough to hold my cat's weight without a problem!

Rasta is 13 pounds on pure muscle, and his mother Stibule is near 15...
So I'm just not sure they would go for it, as they only use the larger litter boxes I have and refuse the smaller ones...Picky picky they are!

But my smaller cats sure will!
As soon as I make this box, I will update you all, with pics of course!
