Exclamation How long before shelter puts an animal up for adoption?

Uhm.. I'm so new to this I have no idea how to make a post.. But I need help. There's this cat that I've grown super attached to :/ and we took her into the humane society because she showed up on our back porch whining, they'll put her up for adoption if she's not super sick and I dont want somebody else taking her I want to adopt her and take her in.. does anybody know how long it takes for an animal to be put up for adoption after being turned in?

It likely varies depending on the area. Can you call the Humane Society and ask what their policy is? Also let them know you're interested in adopting her.

Make sure to let them know you're interested in giving her home and get her reference number or any means of IDing the have for the cats. I imagine they'll look into spaying her if she's not already and most likely there will be a fee.
Best luck for you and the cutie and that you get reunited soon ~♡

It really depend on what kind of shelter you brought the cat to, if is was no a kill shelter and cat would had been taken to vet to see if need to neutered or spayed. Then it be put up for adopted , so it would take a few days to be up for adopted. If is was a kill shelter the cat may have 5-10 days to get adopted. Some shelter will only keep dogs and cats for 3 days .

Just curious...why would you take the cat to a shelter if you wanted to keep it in the first place?

You really need to call the shelter you took her to and ask, and let them know you would like to adopt her if she is not claimed. Good luck.

To give the owners a chance to claim her would be my guess. If I were missing my kitty, I'd be grateful if someone brought her to the shelter.

Nobody's claimed her, a family friend works there and said that she's been cleared and she's healthy and said that she'll be getting fixed this week and then I'll be able to adopt her afterward! Thanks everybody!

Fantastic!!! What a happy ending for both of you, and thanks for looking out for her. Please post some pics when she comes home. What's her name?

Yay! Did you fill out the paperwork ahead of time so they remember you want to bring her home?
