Is there any concern from rabies vaccinated Dog bite
While our 11 month dog (border collie and husky mix) was playing with our bed pillow (one of his favourite stuffs to chew) my wife pulled the pillow from his mouth and got a bite on her left upper arm. Our dog never bites (which we trained him since day 1) so it was accidental bite while he was wrestling not to release the pillow.
The bite resulted a little bleeding locally (may be less than a drop or so) on my wife's arm. Even though our dog has been vaccinated for Rabies and others as listed below, is there any health concern from this biting ? Vaccination done so far: 1. Distemper 2. Hepatitis (CAV-2) 3. Parainfluenza 4. Leptospirosis 5. Parvovirus 6. Rabies (next Rabies vaccination due March, 03, 2013) 7. Bordetella Thanks for answer. |

We're not doctors here for the most part, but I've been bitten accidentally a few times and never worried about rabies from a vaccinated dog. Bacterial infection of the wound is always a possibility, however, especially if the puncture was deep. A doctor would be able to set your mind at ease about the seriousness of the bite.

I'm not a vet but I'm with Hazel here.
As far as I know - Your dog doesn't have rabies and likely none of the other things on that list because you would know if it did. It would be sick. Bacterial infection is what i too would worry about and if this happened to my wife I'd probably get a medical opinion just to be safe.

When we were fostering a coupleof the dogs got into a fight. Hubby separated them and ended up with quite a bite on his hand. We phoned the Dr.'s Office and the first thing they asked was did we know the dogs, were they vaccinated. Of course the answer was yes, they then advised us to clean the wound and watch for infection. Nothing ever came of it. So I think you will be O.K. but definately keep an eye on it.

I'm another one that wouldn't worry about it, particularly from a vaccinated dog. If I were in a high rabie country with an unvaxed dog (say india), then yes.
The doctor will have to report the bite, what happens after that depends on local law. |

I actually would worry about other bacteria, rather than tetanus, which is a very valid reason to see the doc. When my dog was bit by another dog pretty bad, the vet put him on clauvamox.
Forgot about that before. |

rabies would not even be on my mind in this case. this is your dog and he is vaccinated. Rabbies is a concern when you get bitten by an unknown animal, especially when the bite is unprovoked...
in this case i would just wash the area thoroughly and keep an eye on it.
