Whiskers and nails
I've been reading up on whiskers and grooming my cocker when the time comes. What are your thoughts on whiskers? I've read how people are passionately against cutting them and others say it's ok if the dog is for just at home and will never miss them. Does anyone else groom your dog and what do you do about the whiskers?
For nails, I was told by my cockers breeder to not trim her nails, that the concrete will file them down but if I don't, it's like playing with a razor! Not to mention, she can't really be out that much on the sidewalk as our neighborhood is filled with dogs and she hasn't even had her second round of shots just yet (Monday). I couldn't find a reason why I shouldn't and have done so twice already when her nails start to cling to our clothes. Is there a reason I shouldn't? |

Honestly - I don't know about the whiskers. I would leave them be - it's natural looking and don't really get in the way or do they..?
I would, however, recommend trimming her nails on a regular basis. We keep Loki's fairly short - the minute we hear clicking on the floor, out comes the dremel! |

I agree with Loki and nail trimming is a must! Don't rely on the sidewalks. Their not emeryboards!
Also not familiar with the whisker trimming. I personally have never clipped our dogs as they bring character to their humble, loving expressions.

I have read that dogs' nails should not be pointed nor should they touch the floor (if they are either, they're too long). As an adult, you may not have to clip or trim her nails but as a puppy I can't imagine how she would walk enough to trim her nails.
