Kong receipes?
Do anyone has any good Kong receipes? My girl do not like PB. As well, she can't have liver treats - gets very sick off them. I have tried different things and it is like she gets bored with the food inside. She has always been a picky eater and she is currently on Wellness b/c it works for her. I find a lot of the store bought treats she doesn't fancy. For puppy classes, I use pieces of steak or pork. Any suggestions would be great.

Cheeze-wiz? Um, you can just stuff pieces of anything in there. Halo has freeze dried meats. Any kind of pet friendly jerky would do as well.

I'm actually trying the cheez-whiz out tonight. They mentioned it at training classes. She just seemed okay when I gave her a bit on my finger. She used to love yogurt and then I put it in her kong and froze it and she didn't really like it. But, it was different brand.

Some of the stuff I use:
Canned green tripe mixed with a little kibble (you can often get free samples of the good stuff from small independent pet food supply stores). Leftover roast beef and unsalted creamed cottage cheese (often called 'baker's special') Any kind of cooked meat and mashed sweet potatoes with parsley. Same cottage cheese mentioned above mixed with honey, apples, and dried apricots (or any other dried fruit). Throw all supper leftovers (no onions or super spicy food please) in a blender with a little chicken broth or just water for consistency. Scrambled eggs with leftover meat. I sometimes stick with a theme when I run out of ideas eg. "meat and potatoes," "stew," "chicken pot pie," "vegetable and herb medley," etc. Just use your imagination, and whatever happens to be in your fridge/pantry, the possibilities are endless...not to mention a lot of fun (wish I could apply this to feeding the humans around here ).

They all sound like good items. I think the more human like treats are going to work with her - steak/pork/chicken. She is super picky and will not eat wet puppy food. So far, with the Chez-whiz and bacon treats it is a no. She is fussy about fruit/vegetables as well.

LOL....you have got to have the fussiest lab ever.
Have you tried any of the suggestions that luckypenny gave you? Most of it is all people food. Have you ever tried giving her the canned green tripe? It smells dreadful but most dogs go absolutely crazy for it and it is so good for them. |

OMG - I wish someone told me about the tripe sooner. She loves it. She was licking her chops while I was opening the can. Usually when I put down her food, she take a bite or two then play with her ball for a couple of minutes and then go back and forth. This is the first time ever that she stay at her bowl and ate continuously. Used to free feed and then I when in taking the the food away after 20 minutes, but she still didn't eat much. I wish I knew this two weeks ago while she was on antiboditics. I was pulling my hair out to get her to take the meds. Basically, I had to crushed the pills up and put them in some meat such as chicken with a little juice. Something that had a strong smell and was really yummy.
Yes - she is extremely fussy. All my other dogs, didn't have this problem. But, I wonder is it b/c my spouse is away overseas. I know when he was home, he was the pack leader and she didn't really have an eating problem. I know when he left, she was very depress for about 2 weeks and would look for him in the evenings by the front window. Even though, she is 60 lbs, she is very long, so she looks very thin, especially since she had the antiboditics. I think I will be keeping her on it awhile.

She was spayed the Friday before the Thanksgiving Monday. But, it took awhile for her to get back to normal. I had to bring her in to get cream for cut - a part of it was a little red maybe from licking it. I have always had old rescue boy doggies, so there is a big learning curve for me.

Okay - I have update my profile pic. It's her Xmas card photo. The only thing I thing we need to increase the size of the pic we can upload - had to do a lot of resizing.
Diamondsmum - just to let you know - keep her as quiet/calm as possible. Will help a lot. Bought lots of bones, so she could sit and chew. Good luck.

Hello Everyone..
Ok so i'm new to the whole Kong thing. I bought it for my puppy before we even picked her up as i was recommended. Now in the begining i was putting the kong paste in it but not alot. now i haven't filled it in awhile but i think it would be great for her when i'm at work. She just never seems to get the cookies out of it. And when you guys put stuff in it do you completely fill it? Is it easier for her to get out more of a paste then it is a cookie? just curious |

I normally use some all natural peanut butter for my boys (I just warm it up in the microwave for about 15 seconds first to make it a little softer).
They also like a little bit of apple sauce or organic apple butter. It just doesn't keep them entertained quite as long as the peanut butter |

Speaking of microwave, does anyone know if original kongs are dishwasher/microwave safe? I couldn't find any info on this on the packaging.
