ok so i am sitting here watch tv and an advertisment for "air buddies" a straight to video sequal to air bud. the movie is about air bud and another dog having pups (i was already rolling my eyes by then) but then the last line of the ad is a close up of one of the pups saying "everyone wants a puppy for christmas!" such irresponsible advertising..... it made me sad

I saw that too and got annoyed.

Not to mention all Christmas movies I've been watching on Hallmark...someone gets a puppy for Christmas.

Slightly off topic but I was watching AFHV last night and one of the videos was of a child getting a puppy for Christmas. First off, the puppy was in a box (I assume it had air holes or something) but the child opened the box called it a "playhouse" or something like that and picked it up by the hair and swung it around. I was absolutely appalled. The cameraperson ran to rescue the dog and only then did the child realize what it was.

i know.... seriously childrens movies have made advances over the past few years to promote some more socially as well as morally sound choices. why hasnt this changed either? its so frustrating. theres no reason for this.

this is interesting because today my kids said they went to see this new Airbud movie - then they told me they want a girl puppy for Joey and the girl dog can have puppies over and over.

I hadnt actually seen the trailer for tho movie yet - so maybe they got the idea from there - they sure didnt get it from me.

Anyways I told them that puppies were not a good idea - because there are lots of unwanted dogs and puppies that need homes, and sometimes a mommy dog can have trouble giving birth and it can really hurt which lead to some other questions ...., I even went so far as to tell them that sometimes these puppies dont find homes and they end up at the SPCA with no families to take care of them.

Hopefully it sunk in - either way there will be no puppy for xmas in our house.

I too saw the AFV thing and was appalled! I told my hubby nobody should put a puppy in a box for a kid to open. Can you imagine what went through that poor dog's head? And the kid will prolly think it's a big playtoy for him to grab and pull on. <sigh>

Speaking of dogs for Christmas -- A coworkers daughter got her a puppy for Christmas. She already has 3 dogs and is never home. She works 2 full time jobs plus volunteers at the rescue squad. So, her daughter, who doesn't live with her, got her a dachsund. Well, they took this poor dog from it's mother at 4 WEEKS! I asked my coworker if she realized the harm that can be done removing a pup that early etc etc. She said, oh he's weaned and on real food blah blah. Well, her other daughter babysat for me the other night and said when she left, nobody was home with the pup so they put him in the bathtub cuz he is too small to get out. I just feel so sorry for this little feller. I ran into them at Walmart getting stuff for him. They had him stuffed in one of their pocketbooks to "sneak" him in. He was TERRIFIED, trembling and everything. Anyway, I'm just ranting, but I'm so upset over the treatment this dog will receive. Just having a pup that young with nobody home all day is not good. Sorry if I'm

I was appalled when I saw it but not really shocked. If you are going to email Disney you need to approach the subject with how this has made you think twice about buying or seeing anymore Disney productions if they are so irresponsible with the message they are sending. That you will be bring this to all your friends and associates that Disney does not care about the messages they are sending. Because believe me there bottom line is dollars and cents they do not care about all the dogs their films have left homeless or abused. This is the studios home page there should be a link to contact them

I've seen both the AFV and the advertising for the Airbud movie, but I did not hear anyone saying every kid wants a puppy for x-mas,maybe it was removed
The puppy in the box was really bad,the kid thought it was a stuffed toy
