Day one of new regime :)
Today was day one of Petey's new regime.
Started out with an apple and then a morning walk, slept in the sun while Mommy did yard work, enjoyed a venison patty, went to the park for a longgggggg walk and a romp on the beach, had my first egg ever--YUMMY!, and then a snooze on the couch. All in a dog's day.

Aww, thanks guys!!! We had fun today!
And he DID eat the shell! Took a bit of coaxing with the whole egg thing though. I wish I had recorded it, it was too funny! I put the egg in his bowl and he licked it, picked it up, set it back down and then ran excited circles around his bowl...like he didn't quite know what to do with it! So I picked it up and handed it to him. He held it in his mouth for a moment, then set it down next to his bowl. So then I finally cracked it a bit into his bowl and even then he still looked at it strange. So I dipped my finger in and had him lick my fingers. THAT got him into it. He licked that bowl clean in no time flat. The shells he saved for last. Licked the yoke, crunched a few shells, then piled the rest of the shelled outside of his bowl so he could give it a proper licking, LOL! Then once that bowl was good and clean, then he sat down to crunch on the rest of the shells. Here is where he pulled them out to keep on licking the bowl instead, hehe.

LOL he's hilarious! ah the joys of "new food" discovery
try freezing an egg in the shell, and give him that for a fun treat (they swell slightly when frozen so the shell cracks a bit but nothing spills in the freezer). you could also buy some lean ground beef and mix in an egg with shell, for a meal that's perfect. add some grated veggies, or fat-free yogurt... a bit of liver... YUM! you're going to have sooo much fun with this, LOL

Awww glad your trying this new diet thing out with me lol.
It's fun hearing about your experiences. I'll have to post some breakfast pics tomorrow. I usually smash the egg into the bottom of a bowl then mash it up, then add meat and one veggie or a fruit. I stir all of this into a small portion of kibble and let them go wild with it Tonight was ground beef, chopped apple, and egg. Yummy. Lol ah well, as long as the dogs are happy right? Try giving Petey an apple, my dogs run around with their like it's a tennis ball and bring it to us to throw eventually they eat it.

I did get a turkey neck bone thing, but haven't tried that one yet. I've been having fun experimenting with the eggs and apples, LOL! I'm still working on figuring out the whole measurement thing too. One patty is 8oz and there are 16 oz to a pound and he should have just under one pound a day. So I've been giving him one patty in the morning with some carrots and then a half patty at night with the egg and then today with the apple. I have no idea how much an egg or apple would be. So I might be going over, but hopefully it's not too bad! He's actually loving it so far! I think he likes the variety. I really want to try the turkey neck, I'm just waiting for a day when I know I'll be home for more than just a few hours. I'm working different hours this week because of a training course, so maybe tomorrow night I'll give the neck a try! Then I'm not sure how much I should adjust his measurements for that either. But the turkey is low-fat at least, so I'm sure it's fine! Oh, I still want to try mixing things too. So far, I've just been giving it to him separately. I want to try that egg/ground beef recipe you suggested the other day too. We're having fun! I can handle the patties as they look like ground beef and that's the one raw meat that doesn't gross me out. LOL! So the turkey neck bone thingy should be interesting. That one might be an outside treat.
He still acts hungry, but not nearly as much. The kibble he wolfed down in less than 30 seconds. He wolfs down the patties too, but with the egg and apple, it's given him something to lick and carry around for a while before eating, so he seems to LOVE that!

LOL I haven't tried the turkey neck either yet. Maybe tomorrow since I'll be home with them all day. It's definitley going to be an outside treat since I don't want them dragging it around on my hard wood floors (I'm sort of a germ freak, specially raw meat touching surfaces )
Have you done carrots yet? I boil mine and then throw them in the blender till they look like baby food. Then I just leave them in a tupperware container in the fridge and scoop and tablespoon into their meal. Very convenient.

actually if you pulp the raw carrots, they can be digested intead of of just pooped out... you need to break down the cellulose walls either by pulping, juicing or cooking for the nutrients to be absorbed by our dear carnivores

Hey, TD, really stupid question for you! How do you usually feed the turkey bone? Do you defrost the thing, sear it up a bit, or just hand it over frozen solid? It's been pouring rain the last few days, but tomorrow is supposed to be really nice so I'd like to give it to him tomorrow after I get home from work. But it just occurred to me that it's sitting frozen solid in my freezer at the moment and I'm not sure how to serve the thing. LOL! (Told you it was a stupid question!)
