Dog Parks in Windsor? (and from Ottawa travelling to Windsor)

Sheamus and I are driving to Windsor this weekend.....

Does anyone have any advice on some FENCED dog parks either:

1. in Windsor OR
2. close to/along the 401 from Ottawa to Windsor - for some pit stops?

That is a lovely drive but I can tell you there are NO fenced in dog parks anywhere along the 401 through Durham region, Scarborough and Toronto.
Most of them are mid town Toronto.

There IS a lovely dog park that is just a bit off the hwy 401 it's not fenced in but there are LOTS of other dogs there. IF your dog doesn't run off with other dogs around you can go there OR just get a really long lead/rope.

If you want the directions let me know!! It's the property of University of Toronto. IT would be Kingston Road Exit from 401 just as you enter the sign says Toronto (but it's really Scarborough LOL) Just a blink of an eye past Ajax, Pickering.

Looking around online, I did find the fenced park in Mississauga called the QUENIPPENON PARK that looks pretty good....but, it seems to be quite a bit off the 401 (someone correct me if I'm wrong!) As for the 401 being a nice drive....bah....it will get me there, but, I much prefer the scenic routes.

I might actually end up taking the 407, so, any parks near there would be good as well! I am also stopping at a friend's place up in Brooklin (north of Ajax) so, I will be seeing a lot of Southern Ontario on Friday! (good thing Sheamus does well in the car!)

Now, the park that you mentioned....without a fence, I'm just not comfortable (especially in a foreign city!)....and I don't believe in keeping a dog on a leash around unleashed dogs....I find that the dog gets much more tensed, knowing that his options are taken away from him. That area looks like lots of green space though!

Yes I understand your concern. Usually depending on how well behaved your dog is....you can keep them ON LEASH and just drop the leash. They usually have a sense of having to keep around that way. I've done that many times and there are a lot of dogs I've seen at that park with the same situation.


It's far enough off any roads there is no direct traffic and it's nestled right in a lovely open and wooded area with a creek.

ah....dropping the leash, I understand...maybe I will try that out sometime....

We had a Bouvier at our dog park this weekend on a retractable leash for about 3 minutes....very jumpy...some of us (other dog owners) finally asked the owner to please take the dog off the leash (it was a fenced area) and the dog's behaviour improved dramatically! I think the dog could also sense that the owner was uncomfortable....which doesn't help....once the dog was finally off-leash, the owner ran after it whenever it went further than 5 meters away (which, of course didn't help the situation!)

haha...yup, I have a pointer!

He is getting better at coming when he is called....but, one squirrel/rabbit/blowing leaf et c. can make his prey drive (what we call his ADD) swing into action....

He will be trotting along coming back to us, then, his thought process seems to be "going back to mom, going back to mom...oh, a leaf, what's that...I must stop and smell it.....hmm...now, what was I doing....ah well, I'll just stay here and play...."

When we put him on a tie out, we are a little concerned that he is going to give himself whiplash sometimes....once he sees something and starts chasing it.....but, we've bought a spring that is helping with that......

Here he is when we tried to go camping with him (waaay too many sights/sounds/smells for him!)

Pointers are lovely lovely dogs, I truly have a soft spot for them. I bonded with Honey here immediately and had to take her from the shelter I was vol'ing at..I couldn't stand to see her waste away in there. She was so sick but now very healthy and happy with a pointer brother.
